PISCATAWAY, N.J.- Family history dotted a school record accomplishment for the Bucknell women's track & field team, as the Bison concluded the ECAC Championships on Sunday with a fourth place finish. The Orange & Blue scored 69.5 points despite not traveling a full squad to the competition. All three schools, Rutgers, Monmouth, and Duquesne, finishing above Bucknell brought full rosters. Three Bison earned All-East (top eight) honors on Sunday.

Kailey Granger's second place finish and school record in the 3000-meter run highlighted the day. Granger ran 9:38.55 in the event, as her time broke the school record of 9:40.32 set by her mother - Bucknell Hall of Famer Julie (Sweitzer) Granger - in 1999. Granger specifically trained for the event - not normally held anymore in Division I - for the opportunity. She led most of the way before being passed in the final stretch but the junior accomplished her goal - a new school record that will stay in the Granger family.Â
"I ran a lot of 3Ks indoors this year so I've really got comfortable with that distance and really love it," said Granger. "For today, I just knew the splits I had to run in order to get the record so I just made sure to hit them as consistently as I could."
Granger's mother and father (David, also a Bucknell distance runner), were present at the ECAC Championships - her father is a budding photographer who has supplied the program with photos - and their presence enhanced her completed goal.Â
"It means so much to me to get her record," said Granger. "My mom and dad were both able to come and watch today and I got to see her every lap as she would cheer me on and give me my split which was a big reason I think I was able to push through in the less-than-ideal weather. My parents mean the world to me so it was so special to share this moment with them!"
Two Bison earned All-East in the discus throw. Julia Sobilo has been a rookie throwing sensation and she added ECAC honors to her growing resume. The freshman threw 44.72m (146-8) for fifth place. Justley Sharp placed eighth, throwing 41.16m (135-0).Â
Alison Cooke ran 1:06.25 in the 400-meter hurdles to finish 11th.Â
Megan Baggetta slotted 13th in the triple jump. The junior hit 36-5.50 in her second attempt.Â
Piper Portacio placed 14th in the 200-meter dash by running 25.37.
Bucknell heads to the historic Penn Relays next weekend. With the Patriot League Outdoor Championships being pushed back two weeks later, the Bison will send full squads.Â
