Baseball Looks to Stay Hot in Three-Game Home Series Against Lehigh

*Bucknell welcomes Martin Wrobel, the Wrobel family, and Geisinger staff for Sunday's game for the Geisinger Miracle Kid after the second inning of the game. Martin will run the bases with the support of the student-athletes, coaches and fans from Bucknell and Lehigh as well as Geisinger staff.

The Bucknell baseball team returns to Depew Field at Marren Park for a three-game series against Lehigh beginning on Friday at 3 p.m.
Bucknell stayed hot in the Patriot League with another series win over Navy this past weekend, winning two of the three-game series. The Bison are 5-1 for its best start in conference play since 2022 when the Bison opened conference play with a 6-1 record.
Bucknell opened the series with 7-3 comeback win behind a six-run seventh inning before falling 8-3 in the second game of the doubleheader. The Bison then won the series finale 3-1 behind excellent pitching.
Brady Hoar was named the Patriot League Rookie of the Week and the Bison of the Week after a career-high seven innings on the mound to lead Bucknell to a 3-1 win in the series finale. This is Hoar's second Rookie of the Week honor and his third PL Weekly Award of the season.
The Bison continued its great stretch with midweek non-conference wins over Mount St. Mary's and Penn State to make it six wins in their last seven games. Bucknell took a thrilling 7-6 win over The Mount on Tuesday and then shut out Penn State 9-0 on Wednesday.

- Ty Lagoni's single in the seventh gave the Bison the lead for good, and home runs by Garrett Mathias and Ryan Facinelli gave the Bison bog insurance runs to edge The Mount 7-6.
- Bryce Mitchell earned his first career win with three strong innings in relief, and Hadley Maxwell notched his fourth save of the season.
- Bucknell shut out Penn State for the fourth time in program history (1944, 1964, 2014) behind a five-hit effort on the mound between Frankie Bilecki, Dante Pavone and Mikey Myro. The three Bison forced 17 fly outs as the Bison made no errors defensively.
- Michael Trommer crushed a two-run homer in the first inning, and the Bison rallied all game with 12 hits from eight different batters. Zach Selfon led the charge with a 4-for-5 day at the plate.
- Bucknell took two games of a three-game series from Navy to move to 5-1 in the Patriot League in a tie for first place with Holy Cross.
- Bucknell took game one of the doubleheader on Saturday 7-3 in seven innings. The Bison trailed 3-1 headed to the seventh before a six-run explosion flipped the game. Zach Selfon tied the game with a two-run single before Ryan Facinelli hit a three-run double to put the Bison in front. Tyler Seidman earned his first career win with a perfect sixth and seventh inning.
- Navy shutdown the Bison in game two, going on to win 8-3. The Midshipmen took a 5-0 lead before the Bison cut it to 5-3. The Mids made it 8-3 in the sixth, but the Bison went down in order over the final three innings.
- Brady Hoar tossed a career-high seven innings allowing just one run on four hits to preserve Bucknell's lead after an early two-run homer by Garrett Mathias. Jake Schultz tossed two innings in relief, getting out of a jam in the eighth and tossing a scoreless ninth for his first career save.
- Bucknell is hitting .244 at the plate and pitchers have posted a 6.11 team ERA. Opponents are hitting .279 against the Bison and pitchers have a 4.87 ERA.
- Freshman DH and first baseman Garrett Mathias is hitting .322/.508/.417 to begin his collegiate career. He is 19-for-59 at the plate and is second on the team with 15 RBIs. Mathias has three home runs on the season, including one in two of the last three games. Mathias has a 20-game on base streak and a seven-game hit streak for the Bison.
- Outfielder Michael Trommer is hitting .321/.418/.595 for a 1.013 OPS. He has five home runs, 10 RBIs and 21 runs scored along with nine multi-hit games. The senior leads the team with 27 hits and seven doubles.
- Outfielder Michael Chiaravallo is hitting .303 (10-for-33) in 18 games with nine starts. Chiaravallo has been excellent in pinch-hit scenarios, going 3-for-6 at the plate. He's also been clutch for the Bison, hitting .429 (6-for-14) with runners in scoring position.
- Centerfielder Billy Fluharty is batting .280 at the plate and is second on the team with 23 hits and 20 runs scored. Fluharty is 7-for-14 in the last three games with three RBIs. The junior was 4-for-5 in the series finale at Navy.
- Right fielder John Calabrese is hitting .279 in 19 games played. Calabrese has six RBIs and six of his 12 hits have been doubles.
- Ty Lagoni leads the team with 16 RBIs. He has 20 hits, including four extra-base hits. The transfer was 7-for-12 in the Lafayette series to earn the Patriot League Player of the Week award last week.
- Third baseman Zach Selfon has 22 hits and 12 RBIs. Selfon has a six-game hit streak going and is 9-for-18 at the plate in that span. He has reached base safely in each of the last 13 games.
- Lleyton Coupe is hitting .263 in 14 games with 11 starts. The first baseman got off to a slow start but is hitting .321 (9-for-28) in his last nine games. He launched a pinch-hit home run against Saint Joseph's and has taken off with eight hits and six RBIs since then. Coupe was 2-for-3 in both games two and three against Lafayette.
- The Bison have hit 16 home runs. Ty Lagoni, Andrew Swenson, Ryan Facinelli, Garrison Bullock, Lleyton Coupe and Mathias have all homered. Trommer, Chiaravallo and Mathias all homered in their first at-bats of the season. Bullock homered in his second at-bat of the year.
- Jonathan Adelmann has a 3.00 ERA in five starts for the Bison in his new role for the Bison. He's pitched 27.0 innings, going five innings or more in three starts. He's gone seven innings in each of the last two games, giving quality starts against both Saint Joseph's and Lafayette. He's struck out 25 batters compared to three walks the last two starts.
- Freshman Brady Hoar has a 4.25 ERA in six starts. Hoar has four starts of at least five innings where he allowed one run or less. He's had three quality starts this season and has racked up 22 strikeouts compared to 15 walks. He has allowed just one run on seven hits over his last two starts, pitching 13.0 innings.
- Everett Garber has a 6.07 ERA in 26.2 innings over six starts. Garber is 2-2, getting the win in two of his last four starts. He has 25 strikeouts compared to 14 walks this season.
- Hadley Maxwell has a 2.45 ERA and is 4-for-4 in save opportunities this season for the Bison. He's allowed two earned run on seven hits with 10 strikeouts in 7.1 innings.
- Jake Schultz has been rock solid in his return to the Bison this season. He has a 3.60 ERA in three appearances. He allowed a home run against No. 15 North Carolina, but has not allowed a run in his last four innings over two relief appearances. Schulz closed out a big game three against Navy, stranding a runner in both the eighth and ninth to earn his first career save.
- Senior Ryan Facinelli was named to the Preseason All-Patriot League Team and was a Second Team All-Patriot League selection in 2025.
- Bucknell posted an 18-27 overall record with a 10-15 mark in the Patriot League. The Bison finished fifth in the PL missed the playoffs after making the postseason the previous three seasons.
- Holy Cross won the 2025 Patriot League Championship, ending Army's three-year run as champions.
- Head coach Scott Heather is in his 14th season at the helm, and he is the third-longest tenured coach in program history. Heather's 242 career wins are second-most in team history, trailing only Hall-of-Famer Gene Depew (591).
- Coach Heather is assisted by Jason Neitz (16th season), Brett Smith '17 (6th season) and Josh Kieffer (5th season).
- Lehigh is 6-15 this this with a 2-4 mark in the Patriot League. The Mountain Hawks finished 24-26 last season with an 11-14 record in the PL. Lehigh fell in the PL semifinals to the champions, Holy Cross, in three games.
- The Mountain Hawks are most recently coming off of a 9-2 win over FDU on Wednesday, but were swept by Holy Cross this past weekend.
- Lehigh took two of three games from Navy to open Patriot League play, winning games one and three by a score of 3-1.
- Lehigh is hitting .245 at the plate as a team and pitchers have posted a 7.62 team ERA. Opponents are hitting .312 and opposing pitchers have a 3.81 ERA.
- Aiden Quinn leads the team with a .274 batting average in 21 games. He has 20 hits and eight RBIs including two home runs.
- Trystan Crawford has a .265 average in 20 games and leads the team with 11 RBIs. Ryan Cochran is hitting .259 in 18 games with 15 hits and eight RBIs.
- Raffaele Rogers is hitting .354 in 15 games with a 1.112 OPS. He leads the team with four home runs and 13 RBIs.
- Ian Wirtz is hitting .382/.462/.588 in 12 games with seven starts. He has 13 hits and three RBIS.
- Cole Leaman has a 4.91 ERA in six starts. Leaman has allowed 10 earned runs in 18.1 innings with 20 strikeouts.
- Jake Mulvehill has a 4.58 ERA in seven appearances with three starts. He has pitched 19.2 innings allowing 10 earned runs with 21 strikeouts.
- Christopher Nell 4.82 ERA in 18.2 innings in six appearances with three starts. He has allowed 10 earned runs with 21 strikeouts.
- Sam Fairhurst leads the team with 22.2 innings pitched. He's allowed 14 earned runs with 23 strikeouts.
- Bucknell leads the all-time series 118-101 dating back to 1901 where Bucknell won the very first matchup 7-5.
- The Bison went 3-2 against Lehigh last season and the two teams are an even 5-5 against each other the last two seasons.
- The Bison are set to host La Salle on Tuesday at 3:30 p.m. before another three-game series on the road at Lafayette.
- Bucknell swept Lafayette earlier this season in a three-game series at Depew Field at Marren Park.
- Martin Wrobel of Ashland was 2 years old when a high fever led to a trip to the emergency room at Geisinger Medical Center in Danville. In the hospital, he began having seizures and was immediately admitted to the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, where the staff determined he had bacterial meningitis.
- Martin's infection caused multiple mini-strokes that led to profound hearing loss. Martin underwent cochlear implant surgery, speech therapy and was a 2019 Miracle Kid. Today, at 11 years old, Martin has been without medical issues for more than 8 years. He recently received the newest cochlear implants without any issues and has regular follow-ups with ENT and Dr. William Azerado.
- He just finished an undefeated wrestling season where he was the only deaf wrestler in the league and came in first place at the Coal Cracker League Tournament. He now turns his attention to a new season of baseball, where he was named to the Ashland All-Star baseball team last season.
- The cochlear implant program at Geisinger Janet Weis Children's Hospital was started with generous donations to the children's hospital through Children's Miracle Network at Geisinger.
