Water Polo Finishes Regular Season with Split at the CWPA Crossover

PRINCETON, N.J.- Bucknell (12-10, 2-4 CWPA) overcome the loss of its starting goalie to post a 1-1 record at the CWPA Crossover at Princeton to conclude regular season play. The Bison fell 18-3 to #22 Brown but rallied for a 11-6 victory over Mercyhurst. Bucknell's only goalkeeper Tamara Torkos missed both games due to injury and field player Lehua Bender stepped up and filled the position.Â
Brown Recap
Bucknell upset Brown in last year's CWPA Tournament and the Bears got their revenge with an 18-3 victory. Brown took full advantage of Bucknell's goalkeeper situation and ran away with the crucial conference win. Addison Wedding and Ava Bayne shot a combined 3-for-3 as the rest of the squad went 0-13.
Brown did not waste time and led 8-0 after the first period.Â
Wedding scored a single goal in the second quarter but Brown added five more.Â
The Bison tallied twice on Bayne and Wedding's goals in the third quarter but the Bears tallied five more cage finders to win 18-3.Â
Mercyhurst Recap
Bender held down the fort with five saves and eight different Bison scored goals, as Bucknell assured itself of the fifth seed in the CWPA Tournament with the win over Mercyhurst.
The Lakers jumped out to a 2-1 lead and looked ready to pull the upset.Â
Bucknell rallied from the initial shock and sent the game tied 4-4 into halftime on goals by Olivia Hopper, Lin Naraoka, and Caitlin Stott.Â
The Bison used a 3-0 third quarter to permanently establish the lead. Campbell Collins, Olivia Garcia, and Naraoka supplied the scoring.Â
The Orange & Blue scored four insurance goals, two by Britta Coultas and one each from Hopper and Gwen Kallmeyer, in the final period to blunt Mercyhurst's two goal charge.Â
