LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior Amar Tahirovic won a Patriot League-record eighth Men's Tennis Player of the Week citation on Monday after his 4-0 weekend against quality opponents from Binghamton and Delaware. Tahirovic was honored for the second week in a row, and he broke a tie with Boston University's Corey Craig (2023-24) and Lehigh's Zack Elliott (2019-22) for the most career Player of the Week honors. Tahirovic and Elliott are the only players to earn at least one citation in all four years of their careers.
Most notable among his results from the past week was his 6-3 win with Brendan McDonald at No. 1 doubles against Delaware. The Blue Hens tandem of Euan Mackenzie and Tobey Lock were ranked 35th nationally, and they were coming off a fall campaign that saw them win the ITA Northeast Regional title and become Delaware's first-ever NCAA Championship qualifiers.
Tahirovic and McDonald also won their doubles match by a 6-2 count against Binghamton's Ronin Lotlikar and Harry Liao on Friday night. The Bison duo is now 12-5 on the season.
In singles, Tahirovic beat Lotlikar in three sets on Friday, and then he cruised to a 6-1, 6-3 win over Delaware's Federico Garbero on Sunday.
Tahorivic is now 14-5 in singles on the full season, with his only losses coming to top competition from TCU, Baylor, Penn, N.C. State, and Columbia, and he won sets in three of those five matches.
Tahirovic's career singles record is now 97-23, and he needs 15 more wins to equal Nick Bybel's mark of 112, set from 2012-16. Tahirovic is also within range of the Bucknell record for combined singles and doubles victories. Bybel holds the record with 192, and Tahirovic has 177.
Now 2-2 on the season, Bucknell remains at home this weekend for a pair of dual matches. The Bison host Mercyhurst on Saturday at 1 p.m. and Temple on Sunday at noon. Both contests will run concurrently with the women's matches against the same opponents.
