Baseball Falls to Merrimack in Home Opener

Bucknell (1-7) and Merrimack (2-3) were deadlocked 1-1 after four innings, but a big seven-run frame in the fifth broke open the game. Merrimack used the momentum for more crooked numbers in the seventh, eighth and ninth innings to take the big win.
Bucknell started with the game's first run in the first inning. Michael Chiaravallo drove in his sixth run of the season, but the Bison stranded the bases loaded in the inning.
Jonathan Adelmann got through three scoreless innings before Merrimack tied it up in the fourth inning. The Warriors then chased Adelmann in the fifth as they scored seven runs on four hits with two errors.
Merrimack scored five runs in the seventh, six in the eighth, and five again in the ninth as the bats stayed hot late in the ballgame.
Bucknell had five hits in the ballgame. Garret Mathias drove in Bucknell's second run of the game on a double to centerfield. Zach Selfon, Michael Trommer and Billy Fluharty all had a hit in the game.
The Bison made six errors in the game leading to 10 unearned runs for Merrimack. Bison pitchers surrendered eight walks and two hit-batters.
Bucknell and Merrimack continue the series tomorrow for a doubleheader beginning at 11:15 a.m.
