Renner Wins Gold in 200 Fly as Bison Women Wrap Up Third-Place Finish at Patriot League Championships

ANNAPOLIS, Md. – Clara Renner won gold in the 200 butterfly and Kelly Byrne took bronze in the 1650 freestyle as the Bison women's swimming and diving team finished in third place at the Patriot League Championships for the second consecutive year.
Bucknell finished with 1,014.5 points, just ahead of Boston U. at 914 points. Navy won the championship for the 14th consecutive season with 1,420.5 points. Army came in second with 1,293.5 points.
Renner became the first Bison to win the championship in the 200 butterfly since Katherine Munson won the event back in 2006. The reigning Patriot League Rookie of the Meet won with a time of 1:58.63, just over four-tenths of a second off of her record time in the event.
Byrne opened the night with her second medal of championships after winning gold on Friday night in the 400 individual medley. Her time of 16:52.36 is the eighth-fastest time in school history. Her win gave the Bison 27 points.
Sofia Burns and Alivia Wainwright went 2-3 in the B-Final of the 200 backstroke. Burns finished in 2:01.20 and Wainwright was just behind her at 2:01.26 as the duo collected 33 points in the event.
Jennifer Bolden and Tori Castro swam in the A-Final of the 100 freestyle. After missing out on her personal best in the preliminaries, Bolden came back in the finals to finish in 50.69. Her time remains the fourth-fastest time on the top-10 lists after Castro set the third-fastest time with a 50.54 in the preliminaries. Castro took eighth in the finals with a time of 51.31. The pair combined to earn 46 points. Â
Kyla Kelly took seventh in the B-Final with a time of 51.57. Kennedy DeVeaux won the C-Final on a great swim with a time of 50.91. The freshman broke into the top-10 lists as the eighth-fastest time in the event. Virginia Hastings (51.96) and Sara Ketron (52.12) also competed in the C-Final.
Hanna Bingley took eighth in the 200 breaststroke with a time of 2:18.13 to collect 22 points. Her time of 2:17.59 in the morning session is a personal best and the ninth-fastest time in school history.
Sydney Jee took fifth in the B-Final of the 200 breaststroke in 2:19.27. Ava Stallmeyer took eighth in the B-Final with a time of 2:22.21. Samantha Benzija swam a time of 2:23.86 in the C-Final.
Renner's win came in the last individual swimming event to collect 32 points. Sydney Dettmann took seventh in the event with a time of 2:03.10 to earn 23 points. Freshman Emma Briganti swam a time of 2:08.39 in the C-Final.
Bucknell ended the night with an eighth-place finish in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:24.05. Castro, DeVeaux, Kelly and Bolden's time in the relay is now No. 8 on the top-10 lists.
Bucknell's season continues at home with the ECAC Championships at Kinney Natatorium from Friday through Sunday.
