MOON TOWNSHIP, Pa. – Michael Meyer matched his career high with six goals, but defending Northeast Conference champion Robert Morris used big runs early and late in the contest to turn back Bucknell 16-12 on Friday afternoon at Joe Walton Stadium. The Bison fell to 2-1 on the season, while the Colonials picked up their first win of the season after falling twice on the road to top-20 teams.
Meyer also recorded an assist to give him seven points on the day. His only other six-goal game came back in 2023 against Mercer. Sean Berrigan and Owen Kovacs scored twice apiece and Luke Brunner had a goal and two assists for the Bison, who erased a couple of multi-goal deficits only to see Robert Morris break open a 10-10 game with a 5-1 run in the fourth quarter.
Freshman Dylan Anderson had a huge day for the Colonials with four goals and five assists, and goalie Nate Fechter stood on his head throughout and finished with 20 saves.
Peter Grandolfo opened the scoring for the Bison, but Robert Morris shot back with four goals in just 21 seconds to surge ahead. Back-to-back goals from Kovacs and Meyer pulled the Bison within 7-6 at the half, and then with Bucknell starting the third-quarter man-up, Berrigan quickly found the equalizer off a Brunner feed to tie the game at 7-7.
The Colonials later took a 10-8 lead on a Nolan Barker EMO tally, but Berrigan scored a big one on a tough inside roll with just 1.8 seconds left in the third quarter. Meyer scored on the run to make it 10-10 at the 9:43 mark of the fourth, and then Fechter made two tough saves on Hans Huber and Meyer to keep the game tied.
The second of those saves led to Anderson's transition goal, giving the Colonials the lead back with 6:33 to play. They won the next faceoff, and only 70 seconds later Luke Prezioso made it 12-10.
Bucknell got one back when Meyer finished a Sean Murray feed with 4:51 to go. The Bison had two chances to tie it, but a Grandolfo shot hit the post, and defenseman Owen Tapper took the ball away on the crease. Luis Gonzalez scored off an Anderson assist with 2:51 to go, and Robert Morris blew it open with four straight goals in just two minutes.
Bucknell outshot Robert Morris 52-34 and put 32 shots on goal, but Fechter turned aside 20 of them. The Bison won 17 of the 30 faceoffs, paced by a strong 12-for-19 performance from Colin McLoy. The Colonials had the advantage on the loose balls, winning the ground ball battle 37-23.
The Bison are back in action on Tuesday at Iona at 1 p.m.
