Box Score

LEWISBURG, Pa.- No. 20 Lafayette (10-2, 4-0 Patriot League) built a 2-0 lead and held on for the 2-1 victory to extinguish Bucknell's (4-7, 0-4 Patriot League) upset hopes and effectively derail its Patriot League Tournament aspirations. The Bison fell for the seventh straight time and the 2-1 defeat also marked the fourth consecutive 2-1 loss to the Leopards.

Bucknell fought fiercely after falling behind 2-0. The Bison pulled goalkeeper Sarah Althouse and the woman up advantage eventually paid off. Carolyn Schiavo picked the ideal time for her first collegiate goal by scoring with 2:30 remaining in the fourth quarter. Julia Corropolese sent a flick in off a penalty corner, the ball bounced into the air, and diminutive freshman knocked home the shot.

The Bison had one final chance as the final seconds dipped into oblivion. Bella Notaro received the pass outside the circle, pivoted into an attacking position, and appeared to be fouled. No whistle blew as the Bucknell bench hollered for a penalty corner and Lafayette escaped with the one-goal win, the 11th time the result has occurred in the last 12 meetings.

The Leopards built a 2-0 lead off goals by Linda Nova and Lena Thedrian. Thedrian, one of the Patriot League's most dangerous attackers off penalty corners, converted her opportunity with 2:31 before halftime. The whole operation was perfect, as Thedrian's missile sizzled past the Bison fliers.

The second Lafayette goal also arrived via a penalty corner. Stella Malinowski sent the shot in, it bounced off Laila Pasic's stick, the ball squirmed away from Althouse's reach and Nova slammed it into the open net.

Lafayette outshot Bucknell 14-6 and generated nine penalty corners to the Bison's three.

The Leopards dominated the opening period, constantly placing Bucknell's backline under siege. Lafayette notched five penalty corners and six shots but Althouse recorded two saves and the Orange & Blue's fliers consistently blocked the incoming flicks to prevent an early score.

Bucknell heads to Patriot League rival Colgate next Friday, seeking its first conference victory.
