Bucknell at a Glance
• The Bison's difficult schedule resumes on Saturday with Bucknell's fifth ranked foe of the season when the Big Red venture into Davis Gym. The Orange & Blue have held their own against ranked foes, losing every dual by single-digits.
• Half of the Bison starting lineup is ranked by Intermat. Dillon Bechtold (197) paces the group at #10. Myles Takats jumped to #15 after impressive performances in recent outings. Lucas Lawler (285) re-enters the rankings at #31 after his third place finish at Midlands. Dylan Chappell (141) also rejoins the ranked list. The fifth-year senior finished fourth at Midlands and added a pin against LIU.
• Dylan Chappell entered 2025-26 with 88 career wins and the fifth-year senior added three to his ledger at the Navy Classic, picked up a victory in the Wisconsin dual, added three more at the Bucknell Quad, and notched four victories at the Midlands Championships. He reached 100 last Sunday against LIU, scoring a pin against Carter Pack. Chappell became the first Bison grappler to reach the 100-win milestone since Kurt Phipps (133) earned number 100 against No. 16 Anthony Noto (Lock Haven) on Jan. 30, 2025.
• Bucknell posted its third straight top 25 recruiting class, providing an even greater pool of talent for the program. The depth has been on display with the Bison taking every ranked foe to the bitter end, routing Hofstra, LIU, and Morgan State, and performing well at the Navy Classic. At the Midlands Championships, the team finished third for its highest finish in program history at the competition.
• Head coach Dan Wirnsberger is in his 20th season with the Bison and his 21th year leading the program since its revival in 2005.
A Look Back at the LIU Dual
• Bucknell dominated its conference foe 39-3 and moved to 3-0 in league action. It is the Bison's best start in conference play since 2022-23 (4-0).
• The Bison won nine out of ten bouts and scored bonus points in five of them, including three pins.
• The match started in the 184-bout with Tyler Bienus winning a 2-1 decision. Dillon Bechtold (197) followed with a tech fall and Lucas Lawler (285) finished off the heaviest weights with a 4-2 decision.
• Kade Davidheiser (125) kept the party rolling with a 10-2 major decision and Bryce Manera (133) obtained an exciting 9-8 decision.
• Dylan Chappell (141) made history with his 100th career win, easily dominating his foe and scoring the Bison's first pin.
• Riley Bower (149) followed Chappell's pin with one of his own. Noah Mulvaney (165) won a 4-0 decision and Myles Takats (174) finished the match with Bucknell's third pin.
• Bucknell's only loss came when Cade Wirnsberger (157), battling illness, dropped a gritty 1-0 decision.
Scouting Cornell/Series History
• Cornell is 1-3 on the season but its record is deceiving. The Big Red were defeated by three ranked teams in #5 Oklahoma State, #10 Illinois, and #13 Northern Iowa but vanquished unranked Little Rock.
• Intermat ranks seventh Cornell wrestlers. The dual will feature, if both teams are healthy, two ranked matchup and several top-ten wrestlers.
• Cornell finished 11-1 overall and 5-0 in the Ivy League. The Big Red won the inaugural Ivy League title and finished sixth at the National Championships.
• Bucknell is 1-7 all-time against Cornell. The two teams were former conference foes before the Ivy League teams seceded last season from the EIWA.
A Look Ahead
• Bucknell heads to the Davidson Duals on Jan. 16 to face Brown, Davidson, and North Dakota State.
