LEWISBURG, Pa.- Cornell (2-4) won the dual's first five bouts en route to a 26-9 win over Bucknell (3-6) on Saturday night. The Big Red built a 20-0 advantage before the Bison could stem the tide. Bucknell finished the dual on a strong note, winning the final two bouts. Cornell's lineup, laden with seven ranked grapplers, proved too much for the Bison.Â
No. 22 Noah Mulvaney (165) scored Bucknell's first points of the night with a 4-1 decision over Louie Cerchio. The two wrestlers were tied 1-1 before Mulvaney unleashed a takedown in the final period.Â
No. 10 Dillon Bechtold (197) won a comfortable 4-0 decision over Aiden Hanning and No. 31 Lucas Lawler (285) finished the dual with a 5-1 decision over Ashton Davis to end proceedings on a positive note for the Orange & Blue.Â
The 174-pound class featured the evening's only ranked bout with No. 21 Myles Takats facing No. 2 Simon Ruiz. Takats gave the national championship contender everything he could ask for in a narrow 5-2 defeat. Ruiz pounced early with a takedown and built his lead along with a riding time point. Takats appeared to send the match to sudden victory but the refs did not call a takedown and Ruiz escaped with the win.Â
Cornell rolled out of the gate with five straight wins, scoring bonus points in four of the bouts. Braden Bower (141) ably filled in for an injured No. 30 Dylan Chappell and only fell 4-0 to No. 6 Vince Cornella.Â
Tyler Bienus (184) almost scored the upset over No. 30 Christian Hansen before the Big Red wrestler scored a takedown in the final period for the 4-1 decision.Â
