LEWISBURG, Pa. – Bucknell senior Amar Tahirovic garnered the first Patriot League Men's Tennis Player of the Week award of the 2026 season on Tuesday. It was his seventh career weekly honor, which ties the league record previously set by Boston University's Corey Craig (2023-24) and Lehigh's Zack Elliott (2019-22). Tahirovic and Elliott are the only players to earn at least one citation in all four years of their careers.
Tahirovic was honored after posting wins at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles against Mount St. Mary's on Saturday. He and classmate Brendan McDonald won 6-4 to help the Bison secure the doubles point, and Tahirovic later cruised to a 6-0, 6-2 win over Akarsh Gaonkar at first singles as Bucknell swept the Mountaineers by a 7-0 count.
Tahorivic is now 12-5 in singles on the full season, with his only losses coming to top competition from TCU, Baylor, Penn, N.C. State, and Columbia, and he won sets in three of those five matches.
Tahirovic's career singles record is now 95-23, and he needs 17 more wins to equal Nick Bybel's mark of 112, set from 2012-16. Tahirovic is also within range of the Bucknell record for combined singles and doubles victories. Bybel holds the record with 192, and Tahirovic has 173.
Bucknell returns to action with a pair of matches this weekend. The Bison travel to defending Northeast Conference champion Binghamton on Friday before hosting reigning Coastal Athletic Association semifinalist Delaware on Sunday.
