EASTON, Pa.- Bucknell (3-5, 1-1 Patriot League) carried a 1-0 lead late into the fourth period before reigning Patriot League champion Lafayette (6-3, 2-0 Patriot League) scored the equalizer and sent the game into overtime. Lafayette kept pressing and tallied the game-winner to drop the Bison to 1-1 in conference play.Â
The game was an evenly fought affair. Bucknell attempted ten shots while Lafayette had 12. Both teams saved four shots and the Leopards had four penalty corners to the Bison's three.Â
Reese Czajkowski opened the scoring in the 20th minute with a tap-in goal after a pinball sequence. Bucknell drew a penalty corner and Kira Leclercq's shot was deflected to Gianna Puorro. The Bison midfielder, who returned to action after being injured against Saint Francis, had another deflection to send the ball to Czajkowski whose shot flew into the open cage for the 1-0 lead.Â
Bucknell's defense continued to play exceptionally well against an increasingly desperate Leopard team. As the fourth period began to tick away, Lafayette continued to push harder and harder. A controversial call handed a penalty corner opportunity to Lafayette. The Leopards' Katie Gibb fired the drag flick past the hard-charging Bison defenders for the 1-1 score.Â
Gracie Kothari had a scoring opportunity with 28 seconds remaining but the shot was saved.Â
The Bison entered overtime down two players due to green cards. Bucknell prevented a penalty corner chance and had a 3-on-2 fast break attempt that ended with Bella Notaro's shot flying wide.Â
Lafayette's Kiley Gallagher ended the game five minutes into overtime. Lena Thedrian sent a looping pass over Althouse's outstretched stick and Gallagher tapped the shot into the vacated cage. Bucknell challenged the play but an overturn did not materialize and the Leopards celebrated.Â
Bucknell returns to Lewisburg on Sunday to face Big Ten foe Michigan State at noon.Â
