Water Polo Continues MAWPC Play This Weekend

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Bucknell men's water polo (4-7, 1-1 MAWPC) resumes MAWPC play this weekend when the Bison travel below the Mason-Dixon Line to challenge No. 19 George Washington and Navy in two key league clashes. The Bison have gained some momentum after hosting the Bucknell Invitational and posting a 3-1 record, including picking up a conference win over Wagner. The Navy contest will be streamed on YouTube.Â

The Inside "Herd" on the Bison
- The Bison hosted the annual Bucknell Invitational and enjoyed the home waters, going 3-1 against four potent foes. The Orange & Blue defeated receiving votes Salem 18-15, downed high-flying Air Force 12-10, and edged MAWPC foe Wagner 14-12. Bucknell kept it respectable against No. 5 Fordham, losing 24-13.Â
- Goalkeeper David Dumitru played exceptional ball against Air Force, recording 19 saves, and many were sensational efforts.Â
- Aleksa Stefanovic won MAWPC Player of the Week for his efforts. The senior captain tallied 17 goals, drew five exclusions, supplied four assists, recorded three steals, and posted two blocks.
- His reception marked the first time since the 2021 spring season Bucknell earned a MAWPC Player of the Week award.Â
- Bucknell was picked fourth in the MAWPC Preseason Poll but the Bison aim for a higher finish and will take the next step to that goal this weekend.Â
- Stefanovic leads the team with 35 goals.Â
- The Bison received a vote in the latest top 20 poll.Â
- George Washington, ranked No. 19, sits at 4-8 overall and have not yet started conference play.
- The Revolutionaries, recently renamed from the Colonials, have played eight ranked teams, going 1-7 against the gauntlet. George Washington defeated No. 15 UC Santa Barbara 8-4 in the season's opening game.Â
- Adonis Vlassis leads GW with 36 goals.Â
- Navy owns a 9-6 overall record and a 2-0 start in MAWPC play with wins over Mount St. Mary's and Wagner. The Middies are receiving four votes in the top 20 poll.Â
- The Midshipmen are 1-5 versus ranked teams with the victory occurring against No. 16 Harvard.Â
- Navy has spent time in port with seven of its 15 games occurring in Annapolis.Â
- Kiefer Black leads the Mids with 32 goals.Â
