
Women's Golf Wins Battle at the Creek; Johnson Takes Second-Place Finish

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – The Bucknell women's golf team took first place for the second consecutive tournament to start the fall, and freshman Joelle Johnson placed second individually as Johnson, Sophia Bardunias and Katherine Vice posted top-10 finishes at the Battle at the Creek at the par-71 Kings Creek Country Club. This is the first time in program history that the Bison have won back-to-back tournaments.
The Bison headed into Tuesday's final round with the lead and battled to take first place on a windy day as the team fired 297-295-307 for an 899 for the 54-hole tournament. All five Bison in the lineup finished in the top-27 individuals in the field of 90 players.
Johnson posted a second-place finish for the second consecutive tournament. Johnson tied for first at the Bucknell Invitational last weekend and took second after two playoff holes. She shot 73-71-75, hanging around at the top of the leaderboard for the majority of the tournament. Johnson bounced back from a rough start in the morning to finish one-under par with three birdies for the remaining 14 holes.
Bardunias and Vice also had a great bounce-back effort on the back nine holes. Bardunias took sixth place and Vice was tied for seventh at the end of the day. Bardunias was six-over par on the front before finishing one-over on the back nine. She shot 75-72-78 for the tournament.
Vice was seven-over through seven holes, but went two-under over the remaining 11 holes with three birdies. Vice posted scores of 74-76-76.
Lila Smith tied for 24th and Katrina von Behren posted a 27th-place finish to wrap up the tournament. Smith shot 75-76-83 and von Behren carded a 77-81-78.
Columbia's Kristina Xu won the tournament, posting a 218. Columbia finished second as a team with a 901.
Bucknell is back in action for the Nittany Lion Invitational at the par-72 Penn State Blue Course, starting on Sunday and finishing on Monday.
