LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell rowing team benefited from an outstanding recruiting class this past season, and two of those first-year rowers earned All-Patriot League honors on Tuesday. Sadye Levensten and Sophia Cavalieri, the stern pair in Bucknell's Varsity Eight, were selected to the First and Second Team, respectively.
Levensten is a Penn Valley, Pa., native and a graduate of Harriton High School. Before coming to Bucknell, she captained the Whitemarsh Boat Club rowing team. Cavalieri is from Baldwinsville, N.Y., where she attended C.W. Baker High School. She was the New York State Scholastic rowing champion in the Junior 4+ in 2023 and the third-place finisher in 2024, and she also rowed with the Syracuse Chargers Rowing Club.
Levensten and Cavalieri quickly emerged as two of Bucknell's top rowers, and starting with the Knecht Cup on Apr. 13, Levensten moved into the stroke seat with Cavalieri right behind in the 7 seat in the Bison Varsity Eight. The 1V8+ finished fifth in a large field on the Cooper River that day, and in the ensuing weeks they placed fourth at the Ford Lake Cup in Ypsilanti, Mich., and then won the Third Level Final in a thrilling photo finish over Drexel at the Eastern Sprints in Worcester, Mass.
This past weekend, the Varsity Eight placed fourth at the Patriot League Championships, less than three seconds off the medal stand. Enya Gilroy in the 6 seat was Bucknell's third freshman in the top boat, which graduated only one senior.
Bucknell finished in fifth place at the Patriot League Championships, just 11 points behind fourth-place Navy.
