Softball's Season Ends with Split at Patriot League Tournament

WEST POINT, N.Y.- Bucknell softball (18-30) ended the 2025 season by splitting day two of the Patriot League Tournament. The Bison knocked Lehigh (28-24) out of the tournament with a 5-3 victory but Army (35-21) performed the same maneuver on Bucknell with a 6-1 triumph. The Orange & Blue won a tournament game for the second straight season - the first time doing so since the 2018 and 2019 campaigns.
Game One Recap
Savannah Jones received the start and hurled a complete game against a potent Lehigh offense. The Second Team All-Patriot League pitcher kept her sizzling stretch alive and kept Lehigh's hitters off balance all game.
Haley Speicher led off and immediately sparked the Bison offense by reaching on an error. Ava Aguilar sacrificed her to second. Jones's grounder advanced the junior to third base. Brooke Popella singled up the middle for the game's first run. Shea Malone and MaKenzie Hilling followed with walks, loading the bases. Lehigh prevented further damage by striking out Molly Lawson.
The Bison added three more runs in the second inning. Lehigh's defense again let down the Mountain Hawks when leadoff hitter Angelina Seropian reached on an error by the third baseman. Bella Radican singled through the left side. Nicole Lioumis substituted as a pinch runner for Seropian. Speicher laid down a perfect bunt to load the bases. Lehigh changed pitchers but the switch did not stem Bucknell's rally. Aguilar worked a walk for the first run. Jones supplied a sacrifice fly for the second tally. Popella delivered a fielder's choice which resulted in the third when the throw to first flew wild.
Lehigh finally scored in the top of the sixth inning. Julia Mrochko stuck out swinging but reached when the third strike escaped Seropian's grasp. Rory Dudley reached on a fielder's choice when Popella's throw to second base flew into center field. Mrochko landed on third. Maddy Schmeiser's fielder's choice scored Mrochko, giving Lehigh new life.
Hilling equaled Lehigh's tally in the next frame with a scorching home run over the left field line. The team greeted the senior at home plate with a jubilant celebration.
The Mountain Hawks fought to the bitter end. With two outs and a runner on first base, Kelly Fricker doubled for the first run and Mrochko, Bucknell's perennial nemesis, returned with an RBI single. The tying run strolled to the plate in the from of Dudley. Jones proved the superior, inducing a pop-up to Hilling for the final out. Lehigh was knocked out and Bucknell kept its 2025 Patriot League Tournament dreams alive.
Game Two Recap
Madison Roukey started for the Bison and ran into immediate trouble, as the Black Knights hit two home runs in the first inning. Taylor Brown worked a walk and Ashton White pounded a homer over the left field wall. Caitlyn Newburn followed with a moon shot that ricocheted off the scoreboard for the 3-0 Army advantage.
Jones entered the circle in the third inning and yielded a run. Brown singled, stole second, advanced to third on Newburn's fly out, and scored on a wild pitch.
Army went up 5-0 in the sixth inning. White led off with a double and moved to third on Newburn's grounder. Leila Hurst's single scored the Black Knight star.
The Bison scored in its sixth frame. Malone and Hilling singled and advanced a base via a wild pitch. Lawson scored Malone with an RBI grounder.
Roukey returned to the circle for the final inning. Maisi Sigler walked and Annie Christina singled to third base. Lawson's threw went wild and both runners advanced. Roukey obtained a strikeout before Jones reentered the circle. White's grounder scored an insurance run.
Radican drew a walk to start Bucknell's last chance but three straight outs ended the Bison's 2025 season.
Seniors
Six seniors, Ava Aguilar, Juliette Basso, MaKenzie Hilling, Savannah Jones, Bella Radican, and Madison Roukey played their final game for the Bison. The 2025 senior class returned Bucknell to the Patriot League Tournament and collected two wins there.
