LEWISBURG, Pa.-Â Freshman Alexandra Lea has blazed like a meteor across the track & field scene with a number of impressive finishes. She continued her hot streak with a number of sensational results at the Colonial Relays. The league office acknowledged her success by awarding her Patriot League Women's Track & Field Rookie of the Week.Â
"Tremendous honor for Alex to take home the rookie of the week honor," said sprints coach and Bucknell legend Richard Alexander. "She finished off her indoor season on a high note and carried that into her first outdoor 400."
Lea made her outdoor debut in the 400-meter dash, running 54.74 to win the event. The time slotted her second in Bucknell history. Lea's speed ranked first in the Patriot League.Â
The rookie participated in two relay teams. The 4x400-meter relay squad brought home second place, logging 3:49.12. The 4x100-meter relay foursome finished fifth, racing 47.70, just missing entry into the Bucknell top ten.Â
"Alex is really establishing herself as one of our all-time best sprinters and we have had some very good ones over the years at Bucknell," said head coach Kevin Donner. "Her collegiate career is just beginning."
Lea owns four slots in the Bucknell all-time top ten lists: indoor 200 (fifth), 300 (fifth), and 400 (third) and the outdoor 400 (second). She won the 2024 Patriot League Indoor Championships Women's Rookie of the Meet honor. The freshman has won seven events in her short career.
Bucknell fans will have the chance to see Lea race at Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium for the first time when the Orange & Blue hosts the annual Bison Outdoor Classic on April 12-14.Â
