WILLIAMSBURG, Va.-Â The Bucknell women's track & field team repeated as Colonial Relays champions, and the squad recorded several notable results with Noelani Sadler headlining the final day by setting the school record in the 100-meter hurdles. "This was definitely a step in the right direction for women's program," said head coach Kevin Donner. "We had some nice quality performances with event wins and our depth competed very well also. Now we need to start jelling as a team these next three weeks to prepare for a very competitive Patriot League Championship in a month. This weekend has set us up well for next week's Bison Outdoor Classic."
Sadler nearly broke the record last week at the Lafayette Invitational, and on Saturday the rookie achieved her objective by racing 14.13 to edge Catherine Trentacoste's 14.14 achieved in 2007. Her time placed Sadler fifth in a crowded and deep field.Â
"Noelani breaking one of the oldest women's sprints records is a great accomplishment for her," said sprints coach Richard Alexander. "She's putting in the work and the results are paying off."
Sadler's day didn't finish with the hurdles. She served as the anchor in the fifth-place 4x100-meter relay team with Amanda Agambire, Alexandra Lea, and Ava Lomberto. The quartet recorded a time of 47.70, narrowly missing Bucknell's all-time top ten.Â
Justley Sharp made her outdoor debut and the sophomore star lived up to her press clippings with first place finishes in the discus and shot put. The performance won Sharp the Women's Field MVP with 20 points. Her shot put mark of 14.47m (47-5.50) easily conquered the event, as did her discus toss of 45.16m (148-1.75).Â
The Bison quartet of Lomberto, Ella Vogel, Regan McGrath, and Jenna Wright created history in the rarely-run sprints medley relay. Their time of 4:05.84 finished second and ranked third in Bucknell history.Â
Bucknell also found success in the enigmatic 6000-meter relay. The grouping of Kailey Granger, Caryn Rippey, Margaret McLoughlin, and Kerry O'Day grabbed second place, logging 18:53.74.Â
A third Orange & Blue foursome finished second with Anna Posh, Madeline Sipe, Lea, and Alexa Goll's placement in the 4x400-meter relay. The quartet raced 3:49.12.Â
Megan Baggetta placed fourth (38-6) in the triple jump.Â
Bucknell opens its home outdoor schedule with the Bison Outdoor Classic on April 12-14.Â
