Men’s Tennis Clipped at Richmond, 4-3

RICHMOND, Va. – The Bucknell men's tennis team dropped a tight 4-3 decision to a strong Richmond squad to start a Spring Break road trip on Saturday afternoon. The Bison won at No. 1 doubles and in the top three singles spots, but the Spiders pulled it out with key wins in the bottom half of the lineup.
Amar Tahirovic won both of his matches, teaming with Brendan McDonald for a 6-2 win at first doubles followed by a three-set win over Paxton Pritchard at No. 2 singles, 6-2, 5-7, 6-3. The Spiders won close matches at 2 and 3 doubles to take the opening point, with Pritchard and Sam Rathmanner pulling out a 7-5 verdict at No. 2 against the red-hot Bison tandem of Adam Stavrakas and Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega.
Stavrakas and Bain came back to win three-set singles contests. At No. 1, Stavrakas came from a set down to beat Davis Wiley 3-6, 6-2, 6-4. Bain was a 7-6 (7-5), 3-6, 6-3 winner over Otto Sewell at No. 3.
Richmond's Dylan Atkinson won a three-setter from Liam Kilmer on Court 4, and Cole Brashear and Rathmiller also won at the bottom of the lineup.
Richmond improved to 6-5 on the season, while the Bison dropped to 7-4. Bucknell's road trip continues next week with three matches in North Carolina during Spring Break. The Bison visit UNC Greensboro on Monday at 3 p.m.
