Men’s Tennis Defeats Howard 6-1 for 10th Win of Season

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team improved to 10-5 on the season with a 6-1 victory over Howard on Sunday afternoon at the Central PA Tennis Center. Adam Stavrakas notched his 15th straight singles win and Amar Tahirovic moved into sole possession of third place on Bucknell's all-time singles victory list with quick victories at the top of the lineup.
Bucknell won all three doubles matches by scores of 6-1, 6-2, and 6-4, then picked up singles victories in each of the top five spots in the lineup.
Tahirovic teamed with Brendan McDonald for a 6-1 win at No. 1 doubles, and then Tahirovic was a 6-3, 6-0 winner over Michael Major at first singles. He trailed 2-3 early in the match before winning 10 straight games.
After winning his doubles match with Shiv Singh, Stavrakas handled Kaosie Nwokedi 6-1, 6-0 at No. 2 singles. Stavrakas is now 15-0 in dual matches and 26-3 on the full season. The 26 wins are tied for fourth-most in a season in team history.
McDonald was a 6-2, 7-5 winner over Marcel Dawson at No. 3. Will Robinson, who is just returning from injury, won his doubles match with Felix Steindl and then rolled to a 6-2, 6-1 win over Kendrick Lash at fourth singles. Singh provided the final point with three-set win at No. 5, and Howard got on the board with a three-set verdict from Shawn Yon at No. 6.
Tahirovic now has 73 career singles wins. He broke a tie with Josh Katten and Daniel Wright for the No. 3 spot on Bucknell's all-time list. Next up is Ira Reibeisen with 76.
Bucknell returns home next Friday to face Binghamton at 4 p.m.
