DAVIDSON, N.C. – The Bucknell men's tennis team wrapped up its Spring Break trip with a close 4-3 loss to Davidson on Friday afternoon. The Bison fell to 9-5 on the season and went 2-2 on their southern tour this week, with both losses coming by 4-3 counts.
This one followed the same script as last Saturday's loss at Richmond, where the Bison picked up wins at No. 1 doubles and the top three singles positions but couldn't quite finish it off.
Amar Tahirovic won twice for the Bison against the host Wildcats (7-6). He teamed with Brendan McDonald for a 6-3 win over Gregorio Hidalgo and Nicolas Pinzon at first doubles. Davidson won the other two by 6-4 scorelines to swipe the doubles point.
Tahirovic, Adam Stavrakas, and Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega continued Bucknell's season-long success at the top of the singles lineup. Tahirovic beat Uddayvir Singh 6-1, 6-1 at No. 1, Stavrakas was a 6-4, 1-6, 6-2 winner over Juan Camilo Perez at No. 2, and Bain blanked Sebastian Carpio 6-0, 6-0 on Court 3.
The Wildcats pulled it out, however, with straight-set wins from Hidalgo at No.4 and Davide Procacci at No. 5, along with a come-from-behind three-set victory from Pinzon at No. 6.
Stavrakas (25-3) and Tahirovic (22-3) continue to pace the Bison at the top of the ladder. Stavrakas has now won 14 matches in a row and is 14-0 in dual competitions, while Tahirovic is 11-1 in duals.
The Bison return home to face Howard on Sunday.
