LEWISBURG, Pa.- The seedings for the 2025 NCAA Wrestling National Championships were released tonight and the five Bucknell Bison grapplers learned their first round opponents and slots. Bucknell is sending five wrestlers to the National Championships for the second straight season. Dillon Bechtold (197), Dylan Chappell (141), Noah Mulvaney (165), Kurt Phipps (133), and Myles Takats (174) will represent the Orange & Blue in Philadelphia.Â
Takats, seeded 12th, is the highest ranked Bison wrestler and participating in his second NCAA Championships. The 174-pound grappler received his spot as an at-large qualifier. He will face No. 21 Joshua Ogunsanya (North Carolina) in his opening dual. Takatas vanquished five ranked wrestlers during the regular season.Â
Mulvaney, seeded 17th, battled injuries during the first half of the season but responded strongly and entered the EIWA Championships as the one seed. He earned a trip to the finals and one of the EIWA allocations for his weight class but had to medically forfeit due to an injury sustained during his semifinals victory. Mulvaney will face No. 16 Kyler Mosher of Hofstra. Mosher won the EIWA title because of Mulvaney's medical forfeit. Destiny will not be diverted in Mulvaney's second NCAA appearance.
Bechtold, seeded 18th, made an immediate impact as a freshman wrestler. He totaled 22 wins including three straight ranked wins. The rookie made the EIWA finals before losing in a hard-fought dual to the one seed Lehigh's Michael Beard. Bechtold will wrestle No. 15 Joseph Novak of Wyoming in the opening round.Â
Chappell, seeded 21st, enters his third NCAA Championships after clinching his third consecutive EIWA runner-up title. The senior will challenge No. 12 Sam Latona of Virginia Tech. Chappell made his run to the EIWA finals by winning two matches before losing in a fall to Navy's Josh Kinderhardt who is slotted fourth in Philly.Â
Phipps, seeded 25th, will participate in his third NCAA Championships. The fifth-year senior won the EIWA's sole allocation in the 133-weight class by winning three matches and guaranteed his return to nationals. Phipps crossed the 100-win barrier by defeating two-time All-American Anthony Noto (Lock Haven) and sits at 107 wins tied for ninth with current Bison assistant coach Tyler Smith. His first round match will be a Keystone State clash against No. 8 Braeden Davis of Penn State.
The NCAA Championships will run from March 20-22 in Philadelphia.Â
