Dillon Bechtold Wins Bison of the Week

LEWISBURG, Pa.- Dillon Bechtold grappled an ACC Champion and All-American during Bucknell's bout against No. 20 Pittsburgh on Sunday and emerged victorious in the match's most exciting engagement. His victory earned the 197-pound sophomore Bison of the Week, as announced Tuesday by the Bucknell Athletics Department.

Bechtold faced Mac Stout, ranked fifth nationally and the reigning ACC Champion in the 197-weight class, with the score 15-10 in favor of the Panthers, knowing he needed to win keep Bucknell's upset hopes alive. The two wrestlers waged an evenly fought contest throughout regulation, as the best each could obtain was an escape point. The tie sent the clash into overtime. With time draining away, Bechtold made his move on his ornate opponent and obtained a takedown for the 4-1 decision.

"Well-deserved honor for Dillon," said head coach Dan Wirnsberger. "He continues to grow and develop as a wrestler and his best asset is his competitive will to win. Dillon's preparation is what sets him apart from his competitors."

Bechtold sits at 2-1 on the season with his only loss occurring in a tight 6-5 decision to No. 8 DJ Parker (Oklahoma) in the Bison grappler's first match back from a preseason injury. He moved up to tenth in the latest InterMat rankings.

The Orange & Blue resume competition on Dec. 21 at the Bucknell Quad.
