No. 12 Dillon Bechtold (197) faced a daunting challenge in No. 5 Mac Stout, an All-American and the reigning ACC Champion, on his home mat, but held his own throughout the entire bout. The two phenoms traded escape points and each tried to obtain the decisive takedown in regulation but neither grappler fall for the feint. The match headed into overtime and with the time melting down Bechtold maneuvered and caught the champion off-guard for the winning takedown and electrifying his Bucknell teammates. His upset cut the deficit to 15-13 Pitt and made the heavyweight bout the deciding factor.Â
Bucknell rookie Lucas Lawler (285) faced a murderer's row of heavyweight competition in duals and Pitt had No. 12 Dayton Pitzer awaiting the newcomer. Lawler turned the bout into a grinding match and probed for a takedown. Pitzer earned an escape point, which held up for the decision and handed Pitt the 18-13 victory.ÂBECHTOLD UPSETS A REIGNING ACC CHAMPION AND ALL-AMERICAN!

No. 27 Myles Takats (174) scored the other massive upset. He defeated No. 14 Luca Augustine 5-3 and positioned Bucknell within 12-10 of the Panthers. Takats won the bout with a takedown late in the third round while trailing 3-1. He added another point via riding time.Â
The Bison had the chance to seize the lead in the 184-weight bout. Tyler Bienus faced Chase Kranitz in an unranked match which turned into a high octane situation. Kranitz built a 7-3 lead before Bienus uncorked a takedown. The wrestlers traded points on an escape point for Kranitz and Bienus received a point after a Kranitz penalty. Bienus made his move with the seconds draining down and had Kranitz in a compromising position when the bell rang, allowing the Panther to escape with the 8-7 decision, growing Pitt's lead to 15-10.ÂA-Tisket, A-Takats, A-Upset!
