Men’s Tennis Improves to 7-2 with Close Win over Saint Joseph’s

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Bucknell men's tennis team picked up a win over a Philadelphia foe for the second straight day, improving to 7-2 on the season with a narrow 4-3 verdict against Saint Joseph's on Sunday at the Central PA Tennis Center. Adam Stavrakas led the way with victories in both singles and doubles.
The Bison bounced back after the Hawks claimed the doubles point with close wins on Courts 1-3. Stavrakas and Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega won 7-6 at No. 2 doubles, but Saint Joseph's won in a tiebreaker at No. 1 and 7-5 at No. 3 to take a 1-0 lead in the dual.
Bucknell's four singles wins all came in straight sets, with Stavrakas defeating Ernesto Ruy 6-2, 7-5 at No. 2 to improve to 20-3 on the season. Amar Tahirovic is now 18-2 after his 6-3, 7-5 victory over Justus Agbo in the match-clincher at No. 1.
Liam Kilmer defeated Matthew Dubas 6-4, 6-3 at No. 4, and at sixth singles Nelson Alapi downed Matthew Cizmarik 6-3, 6-2.
Bucknell heads to the West Coast next week. The Bison will compete at the Pacific Coast Doubles Tournament in La Jolla, Calif., starting on Friday, and they will also play a dual against Claremont-Mudd Scripps next Sunday.
