Women's Tennis Drops Match to Hofstra

SOUTH WILLIAMSPORT, Pa. – The Bucknell women's tennis team dropped its match with Hofstra 5-2 on Saturday afternoon at the Central PA Tennis Center.
Senior Anna Lajos and freshman Cameron King took the first doubles match of the day 6-4, but the Pride took the next two matches to take the doubles point. Hofstra's Amanda Kadiri and Deniz Soyer took down senior Whitney King and junior Abby Platt in the No. 1 doubles spot.
The doubles slate all came down to the No. 3 match. Senior Caroline Marcus and Natalie Devraj battled Hofstra's Lea Forste-Dinelli and Katarina Drinchich to a tiebreaker, but Forste-Dinelli and Drinchich came away with the victory after winning the tiebreaker 7-4.
The Bison leveled the score 2-2 after the first three singles matches. Whitney King and sophomore Tori Allen won their singles matches at No. 1 and No. 4, respectively. It was a great performance for King, who comfortably closed out her win with 6-2 and 6-4 sets over Kadiri. Allen toughed out a 7-5 win over Soyer in her first set before taking the second set 6-3 for her victory. At No. 2, junior Abby Platt fell to Forste-Dinelli.
All square at 2-2, it came down to the final three matches at No. 3, No. 6 and No. 5. All three matches went to a third set where Hofstra came out on top in each match. At No. 3, Lajos won her second set 6-2 to force a third, but fell 6-4 in the final frame.
Hofstra's Mary Madigan took down freshman Riley Jennings. Jennings won the first set 6-2, but Madigan battled back with a 7-6 (7-2 TB) second set. Madigan took the third set 6-0 to clinch the match for the Pride with four points.
In the final match, freshman Riley Jennings fell to Kaitlyn Ferguson with Ferguson taking a close match with a 7-5 third set.
The Bison are back in action this Friday for a 4 p.m. road match against Washington and Lee. Bucknell's match against Howard, originally scheduled for Sunday, has been canceled.
