LEWISBURG, Pa. – Senior Freddie Lapworth was named the Patriot League Goalkeeper of the Week and sophomore Collin Sullivan was named the Defensive Player of the Week as announced by the league office on Monday. The Bison kept two shutouts last week, beating Saint Joseph's 2-0 and tying American 0-0.
Sullivan earned his first career weekly award, scoring Bucknell's match-winning goal against Saint Joseph's and playing 90 minutes in both matches as the Bison kept its fifth and sixth clean sheet of the season.
With the final seconds ticking down in the first half against SJU, the Bison quickly took a corner kick. Sullivan raced into the box from midfield and flew in to win the header in the box. He put his header into the far-right corner to give Bucknell the lead for his first career goal.
The Bison then kept a clean sheet against the league-leaders American with a scoreless draw on Saturday. Lapworth was forced to make six saves in the match. His biggest save of the match came midway through the second half, coming out of his box to get low and make a save on a breakaway.
Lapworth was forced to make two quick saves in the first five minutes of the match, then he made four saves in the second half. It was Lapworth's fifth shutout of the season.
Bucknell sits in fourth in the Patriot League with 11 points behind American and Lehigh with 16 points and Boston U. with 12 points. Army sits just behind Bucknell in fifth with 10 points.
The Bison have two more matches to play in the regular season, traveling to Army on Friday before hosting Loyola in the final match at Emmitt Field next Tuesday.
The top two seeds receive a first round bye, and the three and four seeds will host a quarterfinal match.
