LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell men's soccer team was blanked at home by Fordham 2-0 as the Rams won their first match of the season at Emmitt Field on Friday night.

Bucknell (0-3) remains winless through a challenging first three games of the season. Fordham (1-1-1) netted two second-half goals to push past the Bison after an even first half.

It was a back-and-forth opening 15 minutes to the match, and the Bison had a great opportunity inside six minutes. A nice link-up play by the Bison sent Kasper Piela on to goal, but the midfielder was fouled at the edge of the box for a free kick. Piela's initial effort was blocked by the wall as was his rebound effort.

Fordham had the best chance of the half just minutes later as Thomas Yerbury was forced to make a diving save early on. A cross came into the box, and Gavin Flickenger flicked a shot on goal. Yerbury stretched to the bottom corner for the first of his four saves in the match.

Bucknell controlled the ball for most of the final 20 minutes of the half, but several good opportunities and passing plays fizzled out in the end.

The Rams threatened with a shot on goal in the first minute of play to start the second half. Minutes later, the Rams looked to have scored, but a tight offsides was called to wave off the goal.

The breakthrough for Fordham came in the 54th minute through Marco Cantalapiedra. The freshman dribbled into the attacking third and found space at the top of the box. He curled his right-footed effort into the left corner to give the Rams the 1-0 advantage.

The Bison struggled to find any momentum over the remainder of the half. Viktor Permyashkin found space for two shots, but both missed the frame.

Fordham capitalized on a mistake late in the game to stretch the lead to 2-0. The Bison lost possession in the back line and Sam Delgado dribbled towards goal. He squared his pass to Marc-Alexendre Happi Emaga, who cut back on his right foot past a defender and buried his effort.

The Bison had another look in the final five minutes with another free kick from close range to get back in the match, but Piela's shot was saved to keep the Bison scoreless.

The Rams out-shot the Bison 13-9, and won the corner battle 9-2. Fordham had five yellow cards in the match.

Bucknell returns to action with a road match at Penn State on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
