LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Bucknell women's swimming and diving squad had a big day at its annual Fall Invitational on Saturday, posting seven wins, seven runner-up finishes, and 30 top-five finishes in a non-scored meet against Seton Hall and Binghamton. The early season competition featured an extended slate of events and gave the Bison a chance to compete in events they might not ordinarily swim.
The Bison captured both relays along with five individual victories from five different swimmers. Two of those wins came from freshmen, as Tessa Feld captured the 200-yard butterfly in 2:05.36 and Kennedy Deveaux won the 200 freestyle in 1:52.47. Clara Renner, no stranger to the winner's podium, claimed the 400 individual medley (4;21.71), and Renner, Jennifer Bolden and Kelly Byrne all had big afternoons with first and second-place finishes.
Bolden won the 100 free by more than a second and a half, and her time of 50.93 was just two-tenths off her personal best, which ranks fourth in team history. Bolden also placed second in the 500 free. Byrne won the 200 backstroke (2:02.16), took second in the in the 100 breast, and joined Talia Bugel, Samantha Benzija, and Sara Keton on the winning 200 medley relay (1:44.26). The Bison finished 1-2-3 in the medley relay after starting the meet with a win in the 200 free relay. Virginia Hastings, Kyla Kelly, Ketron, and Victoria Castro won that event in 1:34.06.
Other runners-up included Castro in the 200 IM (2:07.81), Renner in the 200 breaststroke (2:20.24),, Natalie Penmen in the 1-meter dive (230.35), and Dea Mielenz in the 3-meter dive (2:24.90).
Kelly turned in a pair of third-place efforts in the 100 back and 50 free. Sydney Jee and Castro finished 3-4 behind Deveaux's win in the 200 free, and Sydney Dettmann and Benzija went 3-5 in the 200 back behind Byrne's win.
The Bison are already off to a hot start with Patriot League dual wins over Holy Cross and Boston University, and they will be back in action on Nov. 8 for a quad meet at Navy along with American and Lafayette.
