Water Polo Falls Twice to Ranked Foes

SAN JOSE, Calif.- Bucknell (8-13) battled valiantly but came up short in losses to ranked foes on Saturday. The Bison led early against No. 7 Pacific (13-5) before the Tigers asserted themselves for the 16-12 victory. No. 12 California Baptist (21-7) grabbed the lead in the first period and never looked back in its 18-11 victory.Â

Aleksa Stefanovic led the Bison with four goals. Eight different Bucknell players tallied cage-finders.
The game was decided by power plays. Bucknell went 0-for-6 in its attempts while Pacific converted 4-of-8.Â
The two teams appeared equal early in the competition. The squad traded goals in the first period and Ian Shultz tied the game just before the clock expired.Â
Jack Dillane gave the Bison the 5-4 lead in the second quarter and Stefanovic tied it at 6-6 before the Tigers broke away for the 9-6 halftime lead.
Bucknell battled in the final two periods and inched within 13-10 on a Stefanovic goal but the Tigers tallied three insurance goals to win 16-12.Â

CBU scored six goals in the first quarter for the early advantage, and while the Bison scored three in response, the ultimate outcome was not in doubt.Â
The Lancers added five more goals in the second quarter and led 11-5 at halftime.Â
