Bucknell at a Glance
- Bucknell will look to break out of a goal-scoring drought as a tough stretch continues this week with games against Army and Navy, the two highest-scoring teams in the Patriot League. After suffering their first Patriot League loss of the season at the hands of first-place Boston University, the Bison travel to West Point for a Wednesday evening fixture followed by a Senior Day home match against the Mids on Sunday afternoon.
- After scoring 16 goals in their first 11 games, the Bison have suddenly been kept off the board in their last three games. After back-to-back scoreless draws against Lafayette and Loyola, Bucknell fell 3-0 to Boston University on Saturday. Bucknell generated some good scoring chances early in that match but ultimately fell as the Terriers cashed in on two corner kicks and a penalty kick.
- The Bison enter Patriot League Match Day No. 6 in a tie for sixth place with American with six points. Boston University and Colgate are tied for the lead with 10 points, followed by Loyola (9), Holy Cross (8), and Army (7). Navy and Lafayette are tied for eighth place with five points, with Lehigh in the cellar with one point.
- Bucknell will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday prior to the Navy game. The team features seven seniors this year: Henna Andican, Jess Benattar, Ally Flaherty, Sydney Hess, Klio Kokolis, Reilly Traynor, and Meghan White.
- Andican leads the team and ranks fifth in the Patriot League with five goals. Katie Connell (4) and Gaby Parker (3) close behind, and Louisa Thomsen, Dani Howard, Emma Gavin, and Traynor have one goal each.
- Saturday's loss to Boston University was Bucknell's first this season by more than one goal, and it was the first time goalkeeper Reese Dolan was beaten more than once since taking over the starting role. Dolan still ranks third in the league in goals-against average (0.91) and fourth in save percentage (.815)
- The Bison have a different look this season, as 12 players have made their first career starts and five have scored their first career goals. After starting 0-3 with losses to La Salle (3-2), Delaware (2-1), and Monmouth (3-2), Bucknell is 3-3-5 since then. That stretch includes an impressive 1-1 tie at ACC foe Pittsburgh and a tough 1-0 loss to No. 16 Georgetown, when the only goal came on an 87th-minute penalty kick.
- The 1-1 draw at Pittsburgh was a good result for the Bison, who had fallen 5-0 and 5-1 to the Panthers in 2023 and 2024. Bucknell conceded a goal in the seventh minute before blanking Pitt for the final 83 minutes. That left the door open for a sensational game-tying strike from eventual Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week Katie Connell with 20 minutes remaining.
- Bucknell won three straight Patriot League championships from 2021-23, and last year the Bison claimed the PL regular-season title before falling to Boston University in a 10-round penalty-kick shootout in the championship match. The Bison graduated a highly decorated senior class, led by three-time PL Midfielder of the Year Teresa Deda and 2024 PL Defensive Player of the Year Katie Schiano.
- Andican and Connell both earned Preseason All-Patriot League honors. Andican was a Second Team All-PL pick in 2023, but last year she suffered a season-ending injury in just the fifth game of the campaign. Connell was a Third Team All-PL pick as a freshman in 2024.
- Andican, Sydney Hess, and Meghan White are this year's captains.
- Head coach Kelly Cook is in her 11th season at Bucknell, and she has led the Bison to five league titles in her first 10 years. Cook, who will coach in her 200th game at Bucknell on Wednesday, owns a career record of 98-69-32 (.573) and a Patriot League mark of 53-21-17 (.676). She holds the program records for most coaching wins and highest winning percentage.
- Cook knows the Patriot League very well, as she was a two-year captain and three-time Second Team All-Patriot League selection at Colgate, where she recorded 27 goals and 23 assists in her career. She ranked in the top 10 in program history in career points (77) and assists. As a junior in 2004, Cook (then Kelly Kuss) was named Patriot League Tournament MVP after leading the Raiders to the league title, and then her team knocked off Arizona in the first round of the NCAA Tournament, marking the first NCAA win in school and league history.       Â
- The Black Knights were picked second in the Patriot League preseason poll, and they enter Wednesday's game one point ahead of Bucknell in the standings.
- Army is the highest-scoring team in the Patriot League, averaging 2.2 goals per game, but the Black Knights are also allowing an uncharacteristic 1.4 goals per game. They have outscored their opponents 12-7 in five Patriot League matches.
- Most recently, Army scored two second-half goals – both from Grace Pohlidal -- to salvage a 2-2 draw with arch-rival Navy at Subaru Park in Chester, Pa.
- Army features two of the three leading goal-scorers in the Patriot League. Senior Brigid Duffy leads the circuit with 10 goals, and freshman Sophia Henry ranks third with seven. Sabrina Rogers (4) and Pohlidal (3) are also multiple scorers.
- Karalyn Dail has started all 14 games in goal and has made 50 saves with 18 goals against. She ranks seventh in the league in GAA at 1.44 and eighth in save percentage at .735.
- Army senior midfielder Cami Silvestro and Bucknell senior outside back Klio Kokolis were teammates at Eastern Regional High School in New Jersey.
- Duffy's uncle, Ian Wood, is Bucknell's associate athletic director for sports medicine. Wood was formerly an assistant athletic trainer at West Point.Â
- Bucknell is 17-21-5 all-time against Army in a series that dates back to 1991.
- Army is 4-0-3 in the last seven head-to-head meetings, but two of those official ties came in the 2022 and 2023 Patriot League Tournament finals, which Bucknell went on to win in penalty kicks.
- Bucknell went 7-2 in Patriot League play last season, but one of the losses was a 1-0 verdict at home against Army. Bella Conti scored the goal three minutes into the second half.
- Bucknell's last official win over Army came in 2018, a 3-1 result that capped a string of five straight Bison wins in the series. All three Bison goals in that win came on corner kicks, two from Holly Burns and another on an own goal.
- Bucknell is 3-4-3 all-time against Army in the Patriot League Tournament. In addition to the 2022 and 2023 PK shootout wins, the Bison also won 3-1 in the 2005 title match.Â
- Navy is 8-5-2 overall and 1-2-2 in the Patriot League heading into a road matinee at American on Wednesday. After posting an impressive 3-1 win over Boston University to start league play, the Mids have alternated one-goal losses to Colgate and Holy Cross with a pair of 2-2 draws with Lehigh and Army.
- Mimi Abusham and Marlee Heaven scored the goals in Friday's match with Army at Subaru Park, but the Mids conceded twice and settled for the 2-2 draw.
- Heaven's goal was her eighth of the season. That is the second-highest total in the Patriot League, trailing only Brigid Duffy's 10.
- Navy averages 1.9 goals per game, second only to Army's 2.2. The Mids rank third defensively, conceding 0.93 goals per game.
- Chiara Cosenza ranks second in the league with five assists to go along with two goals. Faith Graziano has four goals, Kayana Adlam has three, and four others have two each.
- Natasha Stamrood has been Navy's primary goalkeeper. In 14 appearances (13 starts), she has made 48 saves and allowed only 12 goals.
- Cosenza, a junior, and Bucknell freshman Audra Toth both attended Westfield High School in New Jersey.
- Carin Gabarra is in her 33rd season as Navy's head coach. A former U.S. National Team player, she is the only head coach in program history.Â
- Bucknell is 14-20-2 all-time against Navy in a series that dates back to 1994.
- The Bison have won four of the last five clashes, including a 1-0 win in Annapolis last season. Teresa Deda scored the game's only goal off a Katie Connell assist in the 30th minute.
- In the last meeting at Emmitt Field in 2023, Bucknell won 2-0 on first-half-goals from Hannah Stuck and Kelley Francis. Jenna Hall made six saves on the way to her school-record-tying 22nd career shutout.
- These two teams have met six times in the postseason, with Bucknell winning four. Most recently, the Bison won 1-0 in overtime on Deda's golden goal in the 2021 semifinals.
- Kendall Ham's hat trick in the first 21 minutes of the match sent the Bison to a 3-2 win in the 2017 PL championship, and the Bison also beat Navy 2-1 in the 2001 final for their first-ever league title. Navy avenged that loss in 2007 with a 1-0 win over top-seeded Bucknell in the final at Emmitt Field.
- Following Sunday's game, the Bison have only two more games left in the regular season. They travel to Colgate on Saturday, Oct. 25 before wrapping up at home against American on Wednesday, Oct. 29.
