LEWISBURG, Pa.- Madison Fowler has hit the collegiate track & field scene like a locomotive with multiple placements in the Bucknell top ten rankings. She continued her impressive debut season at last weekend's Gulden Invitational to earn Patriot League Women's Track & Field Rookie of the Week for the second time. Fowler previously won the honor on Dec. 10, 2024.
Throws coach Ryan Protzman lauded his rookie flinger:
"Maddie has shown great consistency in the weight and she is progressing well in the shot put. She is starting to understand her throw better with each rep and her hunger for competition has made for a good start. My hope is to keep her consistent until the end of the next month and early March and hit some home runs when it counts."
The freshman thrower joined a deep and talented group and has already become a headliner notching seventh or higher in every event. At the annual Gulden Invitational, Fowler finished second in the shot put behind school record holder Justley Sharp. Her mark of 46-6.25 improved her seventh-best standing in school history. Fowler originally entered the top ten at Jan. 18's Nittany Lion Challenge.
She landed third in the weight throw with a toss of 57-1 - a mark only slightly behind her Bucknell school ranking third place toss of 57-4.75 achieved in her collegiate debut at the Bison Opener.
The Bucknell women's throws boasts some of the finest talent on campus with Justley Sharp holding three school records in the indoor and outdoor shot put and discus, javelin thrower Evelyn Bliss earning All-American honors as a freshman, and javelin tosser Brylee Tereska making NCAA Regionals two years running.
Fowler's accomplishment marks the second straight indoor season a Bison thrower has notched two Rookie of the Week awards. Sharp recorded the feat during the 2023-24 indoor season.
Bucknell will compete at two events this weekend. Select squad members will head to the Penn State National Open while other athletes stay on campus for the Bison Open & Multi.
