Ashley Sofilkanich Lands USBWA Weekly Honor After 44-Point Performance
1/28/2025 1:16:00 PM | Women's Basketball
LEWISBURG, Pa.- The accolades continue to pour in for sophomore forward Ashley Sofilkanich as she was one of five players named USBWAÂ Women's National Players of the Week for her 66 points scored during Bucknell's 2-0 week. The laurel comes on the heels of being named Patriot League Player of the Week for the fourth time in 2024-25.Â

The USBWAÂ (U.S. Basketball Writers Association)Â women's awards, organized under Mel Greenberg, the USBWA Vice President for women's basketball, are chosen from weekly conference honors as well as at-large additions.
Sofilkanich dominated the opposition like few Bison have ever done in a two-game setting collecting 66 points, gathering 18 rebounds, and distributing 11 assists while leading Bucknell to crucial wins over Colgate and Boston. Her 44-point performance against Colgate will ring throughout the ages as the forward tied Bucknell legend and Hall of Famer Molly Creamer's single-game scoring record. The mark also set the Sojka Pavilion record. The previous mark of 35 was also held by Creamer and set back in 2003 versus Lehigh.Â
The sophomore was unstoppable in the game shooting 16 of 27 from the field despite Colgate repeatedly rotating fresh defenders against the post player. She went 12 of 16 from the charity stripe and narrowly missed two free throws with one second remaining which would have given her sole possession of the single game scoring record. Those misses in no way dim her immaculate performance that drove Bucknell to a season sweep of Colgate and restored the Bison to .500 overall.Â
Her follow-up game against Boston did not disappoint. Sofilkanich tallied 22 points on 7 of 10 shooting and 8 of 9 from the foul line despite two Boston defenders always hovering in her vicinity. She used the increased attention to spread the basketball and tied a career-high with six assists. The unselfishness paid off handsomely with three other Bison recording double-digit efforts and the Orange & Blue shooting 9 of 18 from three-point land. Bucknell improved to 10-9 overall and 5-3 in the tightly-contested Patriot League.Â
Bucknell hits the road tomorrow for a showdown with preseason league favorite Loyola (Md.) at 7 p.m.
