
Water Polo Edges La Salle 10-9 in Overtime Thriller

PRINCETON, N.J.- The Bucknell women's water polo team (2-1) clinched its first winning weekend since 2022 with a 10-9 overtime victory over the La Salle Explorers (0-3) Sunday morning to conclude the Princeton Invite.Â
La Salle tallied two late goals to force overtime but the Bison outscored the Explorers 2-1 in overtime to move above .500 for the first time since Feb. 27, 2022.Â
For the second straight game Bucknell boasted a diverse and multipronged attack with nine different players scoring a goal - a testament to the Orange & Blue's recruiting efforts amidst the program's reloading.Â
The Explorers led 2-1 after the opening period despite Boati Motau's tally.Â
Izzy Lippolis and Olivia Hopper each scored once and the defense held La Salle to one cage-finder for the 3-3 halftime score.Â
Bucknell played a fine third quarter with three goals to La Salle's one. Bella Schraa opened the scoring followed by a La Salle response. Sidney Finkler replied with her first goal of 2025 and Caitlin Stott made it three straight games with a tally.Â
The Bison ran its lead to 8-6 on Lehua Bender and Lippolis goals. La Salle scored twice with the last goal coming at 2:31 to force overtime.Â
Campbell Collins and Ashley Hopper came through with flying colors in the overtime periods giving Bucknell the 10-8 advantage. La Salle fought hard and scored a goal with 1:50 remaining but the Bison allowed no further scoring to cement their second win.Â
