About the Meet
- The Bucknell men's and women's swimming and diving teams are down to two meets remaining – and just one dual – before the Bison host the 2025 Patriot League Championships at Kinney Natatorium on Feb. 19-22. Next up is the Lehigh dual at home on Saturday afternoon, with live coverage available on YouTube.
- Bucknell will celebrate Senior Day on Saturday, with 16 seniors set to be honored prior to the meet: Gillian Camperlengo, Meghan Catherwood, Sarah Culkin, Justin DiSanto, Liz Dokina, Andy Dorsel, Anne Farr, Reggie Frias, Rylie Giles, Will Hedges, Gina Hinthorn, Chris Kopac, Kendall Luecke, Ed Park, Nick Shopis, and Skye Sunderhauf.
- The Bison split their most recent dual against Loyola, with the women winning 177-123 and the men falling 194-106.
- The Bucknell women have a 35-10 lead in the all-time series dating back to 1977. Lehigh won five straight duals from 1996-2000, but since then the Bison are 21-2, including wins in the last seven. Last year's meet was the closest in that recent stretch, with Bucknell winning 162-138 at home.
- On the men's side, Bucknell and Lehigh first met in 1960, and the Bison lead the all-time series 41-21. Bucknell has won the last four head-to-head duals, including a 238-57 decision last season.
- The Mountain Hawks have been off since Jan. 11, when they swept Marist in two tight duals. The Lehigh men won 148-143 against a Red Foxes squad that had been 5-0 on the season. A win in the final relay was the difference. The Lehigh women won 159-140 behind three wins from Mairin Ludwig in the 200 IM, 200 free, and 500 free. Â
- At last year's Patriot League Championships, Lehigh's women finished fifth and the men sixth.
- The Bison are now 5-2 in dual meets this season, including a 4-2 mark against Patriot League competition after last week's win over Loyola. The two losses were both at the hands of service academies Navy and Army.
- Freshman Clara Renner's spectacular season continued against the Greyhounds, as she won three more events to keep her unbeaten in duals this season. Renner captured the 1,000 free and swept both butterfly events. It was only her second start of the year in the 100 fly, and she moved into the No. 6 spot in school history in that event with a time of 55.49.
- Kyla Kelly had another strong meet with wins in the 100 free and 200 IM. Her win in the 200 IM was notable, as she edged Loyola star Lily Mead by .27 seconds. Mead had won the 200 backstroke and 200 breaststroke earlier in the day, accounting for two of the Greyhounds' five wins.
- Five of Bucknell's 11 wins against Loyola came from first-year swimmers. In addition to Renner's hat trick, Sydney Jee (100 breast) and Sofia Burns (200 back) both won close races.
- Bucknell's divers turned in a dominant performance, led by two wins from Natalie Penman. Penman, Gina Hinthorn, and Reggie Frias swept the top three places on the 1-meter board, and Penman, Frias, and Meghan Catherwood went 1-2-3 in the 3-meter competition.
- Penman's 3-meter score of 275.30 was a personal best by 16.75 points, and it vaulted her from eighth all the way up to fourth on Bucknell's all-time list. Katie Hetherington set the school record in 2013, and then current Bison Frias, Catherwood, and Penman now occupy the next three spots.Â
- Renner is a two-time Patriot League Swimmer of the Week, she now ranks in the top 10 in Bucknell history in eight different individual events, and she has 16 event wins this season. She holds the Patriot League's fastest times this season in the 500 free (4:48.55), 1000 free (10:00.62), 1650 free (16:33.07), and 400 IM (4:18.84). Â
- Kelly is next on the team with 10 wins, followed by Giles with five. A total of 16 different Bucknell swimmers have captured at least one event.Â
- Bucknell dropped to 3-4 on the season after last week's loss to a strong Loyola team.
- Much like the women, the Bison men dominated on the diving boards against the Greyhounds. Jack Krug won both diving competitions. His impressive performance included a personal-best score on the 1-meter board. His 295.65 tally moved him into a tie for second on Bucknell's all-time performers list. Adam Freeman's school record of 318.15 has held up since 2005, and Krug is now level with David Magaro (2010) for the No. 2 spot. Krug had been fifth all-time with a previous PR of 281.90, set at last year's Patriot League Championships.
- Jackson Vinarub was second in the 1-meter event with a solid 280.13, and then on the 3-meter board it was nearly a dead heat between Krug (290.85) and Vinarub (290.70) for the top two spots, with Connor Thurston (268.65) making it a 1-2-3 Bucknell sweep.
- Chris Kopac (200 free), Andy Dorsel (200 IM), and Alex Crossing (500 free) also won events against Loyola. Dorsel was also second in the 200 breaststroke, and Crossing was also third in the 1,000 free. Â
- Kopac leads the team with six individual wins on the season, followed by Dorsel with five and Crossing with three. Â
- Bucknell will host the Bison Invitational on Saturday, Feb. 1, and those will be the team's final competitive swims and dives before the 2025 Patriot League Championships, which will be held at Kinney Natatorium Feb. 19-22.
