RESULTS
LEWISBURG, Pa. – Clara Renner's third event win of the day led a 1-2-3 Bucknell sweep in the 400-yard individual medley, giving the Bison a three-point lead in the meet, but Army closed with a 1-3 finish in the 200 freestyle relay to steal a 153-147 victory on Saturday afternoon at Kinney Natatorium. The Black Knights improved to 9-1 on the season while the Bison fell to 4-2.
Renner also won the 200 butterfly and the 500 free to keep her sensational rookie season going, and classmate Sofia Burns also had a big day with wins in both backstroke events.
Diver Reggie Frias was victorious on the 3-meter board just before the sweep in the 400 IM, helping the Bison grab the late lead at 143-140. But Army's 200 free relay posted a 3-second win and their B relay took third to help the Black Knights outscore the Bison 13-4 in the final event of the dual.
Army also went 1-2 in the 200 medley relay to start the day, giving them a 28-6 points advantage in the two relays. The individual events began with a dandy of a race in the 1,000 free, as Army's Maggie Kroening's winning time of 10:31.61 was a mere .32 ahead of Bucknell's Kelly Byrne.
Even though Army won 10 of the 16 events, Bucknell stayed close thanks to its depth. The Bison posted 2-3-4 finishes in four different races, starting with the 200 free with Rylie Giles, Virginia Hastings, and Sara Ketron. After Burns clipped Jenna Hart in a close 100 back, Sydney Jee, Hanna Bingley, and Liz Dokina went 2-3-4 in the 100 breaststroke.
Hastings was barely out-touched by Meghan Cole in the 50 free with Kyla Kelly taking third. The Hastings-Kelly-Ketron trio took the 2-3-4 spots in the 100 free, and then after Burns completed her double in the 200 back, Jee, Byrne, and Dokina went 2-3-4 in the 200 breast.
Renner won the 500 free by a mere .32 over Webber, and then Army picked up big points with the top two finishers in the 100 fly.
Frias, who also finished second on the 1-meter board, scored 256.65 in the 3-meter to edge Army's Minh Donnell by just 2.32 points. Bucknell followed with the sweep in the 400 IM, but Army, which was coming off a dual win over rival Navy, pulled it out in the final relay.
The Bison will be back in action on Friday at home against Loyola. The action starts at 1 p.m., with live coverage on YouTube.
