RESULTS
PHILADELPHIA, Pa. – Kyla Kelly and Clara Renner claimed two individual events apiece and seven different Bison won races as the Bucknell women's swimming & diving team defeated La Salle 175-125 on Friday in the first meet of 2025. The Bison improved to 4-1 on the season and will now have a short turnaround before hosting Army West Point on Saturday afternoon.
The Bison faced an early deficit after the Explorers (5-5) took the top two spots in the meet-opening 200-yard medley relay. But Bucknell quickly surged ahead with dominant performances in the first two individual races. Renner and Virginia Hastings went 1-2 in the 1,000 freestyle, and then Rylie Giles, Kelly Byrne, and Ashley Piacentino swept the top three spots in the 200 free.
La Salle followed with wins in the 100 backstroke and 100 breaststroke, but Bucknell won eight of the final 11 events to pull away.
The Bison won both butterfly events, with Skye Sunderhauf and Sydney Dettmann going 1-2 in the 200 and Renner posting her second win of the day in the 100. In the sprints, Sara Ketron and Kelly took 1-2 in the 50, with only five-hundredths of a second separating them. Kelly then came back to win the 100, just ahead of teammate Giles, as well as the 200 individual medley in a 1-2 finish with Byrne. Byrne later won the 500 free in a top-two sweep with Dettmann
Talia Bugel won the 200 backstroke, with Sofia Burns collecting her second runner-up finish of the day.
Bucknell closed out the meet with a three-second win in the 400 free relay. Ketron, Hastings, Renner, and Giles comprised the winning quartet.
Bucknell and Army get going at 1 p.m. Saturday at Kinney Natatorium, with live coverage available on YouTube.
