Bardunias Fires 72 as Women’s Golf Off Fast Start at Roseann Schwartz Invitational

RESULTS
BOARDMAN, Ohio – Freshman Sophia Bardunias rallied to shoot an even-par 72 to lead the Bucknell women's golf team to a strong 301 team score in round one of the Roseann Schwartz Invitational, hosted by Youngstown State at Mill Creek Golf Course. The Bison are in fifth place in a 13-team field after posting the 15th-best score in team history and the sixth-best on a visiting golf course.
Bardunias bogeyed four of her first five holes, then played the next 13 in 4-under par. She birdied holes 7, 9, 10, 17, and 18 to get all the way back to even on the day. Bardunias is in a three-way tie for eighth place in the individual standings.
Nicole Yun continued her strong start to the season with a 2-over 74, which came despite a triple-bogey at the par-4 10th. Tara Thomas followed with a 76, Katrina von Behren with a 79, and Lila Smith with an 80.
Seven players in the field broke par on Sunday, led by a 3-under 69 from Cleveland State's Kaitlin Kormuth. Youngstown State's Valentina Pena Anaya is one shot back, followed by five others at 1-under.
The host Penguins tallied a 292 to take the team lead after the first round. Purdue Fort Wayne is second at 297, followed by Indiana State (299), Western Michigan (300), and Bucknell. The Bison are three clear of sixth-place Cleveland State.
The second and final round gets going with a 9 a.m. shotgun start on Monday.
