REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. – The Bucknell women's golf team stormed to a commanding 13-stroke lead after 36 holes of play on Monday at the Battle at the Creek, hosted by Sacred Heart at the challenging Kings Creek Country Club. Led by junior Paige Richter and freshman Sophia Bardunius in a tie for third at 13-over-par 155, all four Bison in the lineup are in the top 10 in a field of 50 players.
Bucknell led the nine-team field in both rounds with scores of 309 and 317, and the team's 626 total is 13 better than second-place Sacred Heart at 639. Monmouth (643), Mount St. Mary's (644), and Delaware State (652) round out the top five.
Richter's opening-round 75, highlighted by a pair of back-nine birdies, was Bucknell's best of the day. She followed with an 80 in the afternoon round and is tied for low-Bison honors with Bardunias, who shot 79-76.
Sacred Heart's Maya Robilio shot 74-77 for a 151 total, and she has a one-shot lead over Delaware State's Claudia Hofmeister.
Also for Bucknell, senior Tara Thomas is tied for sixth place after posting 76-80, and freshman Katrina von Behren is T-9th after carding 79-81.
With only four players on this trip, the Bison do not have the luxury of dropping their lowest score, but nonetheless they will have a sizable lead heading into Tuesday's final round as they chase the 10th tournament title in program history.
