"Evie fought through some adversity today to punch her ticket to the final," said Bucknell throws coach Ryan Protzman. "Yesterday presented some food poisoning, and today, the athletes weren't given much time to warm up on the runway. She did her job, advanced, and has a better idea of how to set herself up for success in Friday's final. I'm so proud of her for making adjustments and getting it done today."
Entrance to the finals was unlocked by throwing 53 meters or finishing in the top-12. Bliss did not equal the automatic standards but her seventh-place toss was more than enough to cement her spot.Â
Bliss's best toss went 50.92 meters or 167-0 feet. Her first throw went 41.55 meters before she uncorked the 50.92 throw that sent her through to the finals. Her third attempt was disqualified. It was a solid performance for the young thrower after battling jet lag, illness, and an unfamiliar environment.Â
Bliss finished the highest out of the two Americans throwing. The other thrower, Alysa Keller, also qualified for the finals. The top three were Germany's Mirja Lukas (56.76/186-1), China's Ziyi Yan (55.67/182-6), and Croatia's Vita Barbic (52.54/172-3).Â
The finals will be held on Friday night, starting around 6:45 p.m. Eastern Time. The competition resets with all throwers receiving three preliminary throws and the top eight will obtain three additional throws in the finals.
