LEWISBURG, Pa.- The postseason accolades continue to roll in for Bucknell Softball as the Bison placed two student-athletes, Madison Roukey and Zoie Smith, on the Academic All-Patriot League Team. It is the most players on the team since 2019 when four Orange & Blue members were selected. Both Roukey and Smith also were named to All-League teams earlier this week.
Roukey, a Markets, Innovation & Design major, boasts an impressive GPA and has been a mainstay in the "MiDE" program. She has constantly been on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll and Bucknell's Dean's List.
Roukey has been A+ on the mound, collecting ten wins to lead the Bison and becoming Bucknell's first tosser to win double-digit games since Raeanne Geffert collected 16 victories in 2019. Roukey appears everywhere on the PL leaderboard for pitchers, ranking third in ERA (2.33), fifth in innings pitched (129.1), fifth in wins (10), fifth in complete games (11), and sixth in strikeouts (90). Roukey proved decisive in conference play, gathering seven of Bucknell's nine PL victories.
Smith, an International Relations major with Global Governance and Conflict Resolution and Spanish focuses, repeats as an Academic All-Patriot League member. She becomes the first Bison to repeat since Geffert in 2018-19. Smith recently won Bucknell's Edward W. Pangburn Award at the senior banquet and cofounded Bucknell's chapter of Morgan's Message. Postgraduate plans are to continue her education at George Mason University by enrolling in their dual degree program with the University of Malta to earn a Master of Science in Conflict Analysis and Resolution and a Master of Arts in Mediterranean Security.
Smith earned First Team honors in 2023 and won Second Team laurels this year becoming the first Bison along with Savannah Jones since Geffert (2017-18-19) to receive back-to-back league slots. The senior slugger has smashed the ball, hitting .344 with 44 hits, 12 doubles, three home runs, and 23 RBIs. All of those marks rank first for Bucknell. Among PL competition, she ranks fifth in doubles (despite every other player in the top ten competing in six to 11 more games than her) and eighth in batting average.
Roukey, Smith, and the third-seeded Bison open the Patriot League Tournament tomorrow at 12:30 p.m. against the two-seeded Lehigh Mountain Hawks.
