LEWISBURG, Pa.- Senior athlete Abby Eisold of the Bucknell women's track & field team received Bison of the Week honors for her record-breaking performance in the heptathlon at the 2024 Patriot League Outdoor Championships. Eisold won silver and smashed a long-standing Bison record.
"Abby had a tremendous meet to finish as the league runner-up and break our oldest school record in the heptathlon," said head coach Kevin Donner. "What a great way to end a nice career."
Eisold posted personal bests in five of the seven events to score 4943 points shattering the 41-year-old record of Lonnie Fertik by 127 points. Fertik's mark was the oldest record for the women's track & field team. Eisold was previously third in the top ten list with 4688 points before capping her Orange & Blue career with a banner day.
The five events where she broke her previous standards were the 100-meter hurdles, the high jump, the long jump, the 200-meter dash, and the 800-meter run. She leaped 5-5 ¾ in the high jump, narrowing missing entry into Bucknell's top ten. Eisold posted an 18-8 mark in the long jump again just missing out on top ten inclusion. Both jump marks finished first. She ran a 26.32 to place fourth in the 200-meter dash and 2:35.03 to capture tenth in the 800-meter run. The senior saved her finest performance for the 100-meter hurdles. Her 14.37 time finished third in the event but registered fourth all-time in Bucknell history.
She performed well in the remaining two events. Her 101-2 toss in the javelin throw grabbed fourth and a 33-10 throw in the shot put earned fifth. Both those results were not far off from setting personal bests.
It is the first time that Eisold won Bison of the Week and the seventh time a Bucknell women's track & field athlete received the honor during the 2023-24 athletic year.
Selected Bison will compete in the ECAC/IC4A Championships or graduate this weekend.
