Men's Track & Field Holds Patriot League Outdoor Championships This Weekend

LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison men's track & field team hosts the 2024 Patriot League Outdoor Championships this weekend at Christy Mathewson-Memorial Stadium and the West Fields Complex. This marks the seventh time Bucknell has hosted the Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships, the first since 2016. Christy Mathewson - Memorial Stadium hosted the inaugural Patriot League Outdoor Track & Field Championships in the spring of 1991.

"We have a well-balanced men's team among the event groups and although we are missing some key players due to injuries, other people have stepped in nicely. I believe we can get close to 100 points. We have not hit that number in a few years. Being at home will help and the guys are excited."
Patriot League Championship Major Awards
All-Patriot League status will be determined by the event finishes at the 2024 Patriot League Men's and Women's Outdoor Track and Field Championship, with first-place winners earning first-team All-League honors. The runner-up in each event will earn second-team honors.
Following the conclusion of the meet, the League head coaches will vote on several individual major awards. A men's and women's track athlete, field athlete and rookie of the meet will be selected. Men's and women's coach of the year awards will also be selected. The Patriot League will also present awards to the men's and women's highest scorers of the meet.
Last Time Out (Bloomsburg Invitational)
Qualified participants will compete in the IC4A Championships next weekend.Â

Last Time Out (Bloomsburg Invitational)
- Braden Stryker had a banner day in the shot put. His throw of 54-10 ¾ won the event and improved his fourth-best all-time mark in Bucknell history by eight inches.
- Colby Belczyk brought home gold in the 400-meter dash. The junior recorded a time of 50.33.
- Bucknell dominated the 800-meter run by claiming the top six placements. JP Byrnes won the event by setting a personal best time of 1:54.70.
- The Bison claimed the top three spots in the 1500-meter run. Henry Didden's time of 3:59.78 claimed the victory.
- The Orange & Blue claimed seven of the top eight placements in the 5000-meter run. Mason Barlow won the event by nearly eight seconds with a time of 14:43.35.
- Bucknell finished fifth with 67.2 points.
- The Bison dominated the shot put, earning the second, third, and sixth-place finishes to collect 17 points. All three throwers set personal bests to establish a presence in the Bison top ten. Anthony Zamarra led the way, placing second on a heave of 56-0 ½ to keep second all-time in the Bucknell annals and score eight points. Wade Shomper finished third in the event and in Bucknell history on his toss of 55-11 ¾ to grab six points. Braden Stryker placed sixth on a throw of 54-1 ¾ to score three points. His mark inserted him into fifth in the Bucknell record book. Â
- Samuel Whittaker completed his final Patriot League Outdoor Championship with a fourth-place finish in the 1500-meter run. The senior runner raced for a time of 3:48.28 to earn four points and improve upon his fifth-best time in Bison history.
- Noah Martin finished fifth in the 3000-meter steeplechase with a time of 9:01.63. The mark puts the senior at 10th all-time in the Bucknell record book.
Qualified participants will compete in the IC4A Championships next weekend.Â
