BALTIMORE, Md. – Chase Boyle scored six goals and broke Loyola's single-season scoring record, leading the ninth-ranked Greyhounds to a 16-5 win over Bucknell on the final night of the 2024 regular season at Ridley Athletic Complex. The Bison ended up in a four-way tie for fifth place in the Patriot League, but they came up short in the tiebreakers and will miss out on a PL Tournament berth.
Loyola had already clinched the No. 1 seed and hosting rights for the tournament, and the Greyhounds (15-2, 9-0 PL) finished off another undefeated league season to claim the outright regular-season title. Loyola is 83-0 in regular-season conference games since joining the Patriot League in 2014.
Four of Bucknell's five goals came from the senior class, with Emily Baird scoring twice and Phoebe Macleod and Taylor LaMantia once each. LaMantia, who has battled a couple of major injuries throughout her career, finished in style with 3:12 remaining. Alex Nesbitt picked off a pass behind the Loyola goal and fed LaMantia for her second career goal.
Loyola's high-powered attack got going early, as Boyle and Georgia Latch scored in the game's first 47 seconds. The Greyhounds led 15-0 into the late stages of the third quarter before Macleod got the Bison on the board with a hard, low shot in transition. Bucknell outscored Loyola 5-1 from that point on.
Baird scored the goal of the game early in the fourth quarter. She took a Regan Sansiviero flip on the right wing and juked her defender straight to the ground. Baird's initial shot was saved, but she popped in the rebound for her first of two goals on the night.
Sansiviero scored a nice goal of her own with a low lefty rip from distance to make it a 3-0 Bucknell run.
Goalie Colleen Kazanjian had a strong game with 12 saves, and freshman defender Katie Wolin led the team with three ground balls.
Loyola came into the game ranked No. 2 nationally in draw control percentage, and the Greyhounds picked up 20 of the 25 draws in this one, which helped lead to a big edge in possession time. The hosts finished with a 35-17 edge in shots.
Boyle's six goals give her a Loyola-record 74 on the season. Sydni Black scored four times to up her season total to 64, and Latch tallied two goals and four assists. All three members of that trio are ranked among the nation's top-15 scorers.
Bucknell finishes the season with a 5-10 overall record and a 3-6 mark in the Patriot League. Colgate, Lehigh, and American also finished 3-6, and the Raiders and Mountain Hawks grabbed the final two Patriot League Tournament berths.
