Baseball Beats Navy 7-4 to Win Season Series with the Mids

ANNAPOLIS, MD.- The Bucknell Bison baseball team picked up a 7-4 victory over the Navy Midshipmen on Wednesday evening. The Orange & Blue's triumph gave the Lewisburg team the 3-2 season series victory over the Mids, which would prove decisive should tie-breakers be necessary. Bucknell moved to 8-11 in Patriot League competition.
The Bison relied on timely hitting and a solid outing from starting pitcher Mikey Myro (3-3) to defeat Navy in its home waters. Sophomore Michael Trommer continued his breakout season going 1-for-3 with a career-high four RBIs. Trommer has driven in seven runs in the last two games.
Game Recap
The Midshipmen scored first by tallying a run in the second inning. Andrew Manning doubled to left center and scored on a wild pitch from the keystone base. The ball bounced away into Max Bishop Stadium's vast foul territory allowing Manning to race home.
The Bison counterattacked in the third inning scoring two runs to take the lead. Bucknell took advantage of wild pitching by Navy. Billy Kender and Jacob Corson walked. A pitch nailed Sean Keys, and then Trommer continued his hot streak at the plate with a perfectly placed two-run single.
Another run scored for the Bison in the following inning when Keys lifted a sacrifice fly to right field to score Chris Morabito. The run came after Morabito led off the frame with a walk and was moved to third via a sacrifice bunt and single.
Bucknell tallied another run in the fifth inning. Corson led off with a double and moved to third base when Trommer flew out to center field. Grant Voyvotich's RBI grounder scored Corson. Navy answered with a run in the same inning thanks to three singles, cutting the Bison lead to 5-2.
The Bison scored twice in the sixth inning. Again, the leadoff hitter reaching played a pivotal role. Brady Karp doubled to left center and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Kender walked, and then Keys drove in his second run with a clean single up the middle. A pitch hit Corson to load the bases, and Trommer delivered the second run via a sacrifice fly.
Jonathan Adelmann was inserted in relief of Myro after the starting pitcher threw five solid innings. A double play erased a leadoff single. Manning reached safety on a single and Victor Izquierdo's double scored the runner, but Adelmann prevented more runs by inducing the third out.
Navy added another run in the seventh frame as the Mids scored their second run of the game via a wild pitch. Mac McCommons doubled to start the inning followed by a hit by pitch and a fly out. Brock Murtha walked and ball four escaped to score McCommons, cutting the deficit to 6-4 Bucknell. A double play followed to end the inning.
Trommer added to his impressive day with a second sacrifice fly, notching his fourth RBI. Kender led off with a double and advanced to third on Keys' grounder. Trommer's deep fly ball allowed Kender to easily scoot home with the insurance run.

The final inning was not without drama. Nick Mulvey started the frame looking for the save and obtained a strikeout before allowing two straight walks. A grounder advanced both runners. Coach Scott Heather dug up an old-school move and pressed his ace starting pitcher Tyler O'Neill for a relief appearance. The move paid off as O'Neill struck out Furey swinging, giving Bucknell a much-needed conference victory and O'Neill his second save in 2024.TROMMER!
