LEWISBURG, Pa.- The Bucknell Bison women's track & field throwing group had a great weekend at the Bison Outdoor Classic, collecting four wins and one facility record. The accomplishments resulted in freshman Evelyn Bliss receiving Rookie of the Week for the second time this season. It is the second straight week for a Bison thrower winning the award. Justley Sharp won it last week.Â
"Evie has done a great job of remaining patient," said throws coach Ryan Protzman. "The goal as we hit this home stretch is winning and consistency. The focus since her opener has been Patriot League Championships and the NCAAs."Â
Bliss won the javelin throw with a toss of 170-10 feet. The mark outpaced the second-place finisher by over 14 feet. Additionally, her throw came on her final attempt as the freshman star displayed impressive stamina. The distance set the facility record for the West Field, breaking the old mark of 170-6 set by P. Dumont of Team Quebec in 2022.Â
The rookie thrower has already made her presence felt in the Bucknell record book. In her first collegiate competition, the newcomer threw the instrument 173-9 feet for second place in the Bison lists. She trails only the famed Maura Fiamoncini's mark of 185-4 in Bucknell history.Â
