Women's Tennis Clinches Regular Season Finale Over Loyola, 4-3

BALTIMORE, Md. – Mirra Manolov came through in a three-set thriller at sixth singles to defeat Loyola's Emi Shivkumar and clinch the final dual of the regular season for the Bucknell women's tennis team. The Bison and Greyhounds went back and forth trading blows throughout the day and sat tied at 3-3 before Manolov's win. Bucknell's four points all came from singles play.

Whitney King, Abby Platt, Tori Allen and Manolov each came away victorious in singles to help the Bison improve to 2-5 in Patriot League play. Loyola, which moved to 11-5 (3-3 PL) with one dual to go, won the doubles point and earned points at second and fourth singles.

The Greyhounds won 6-0 at court two doubles and 6-4 at third doubles to begin the day with a 1-0 lead. King then got the Bison on the board with a quick 6-0, 6-2 win at first singles over Olivia Tracey. King finishes the regular season with an 18-9 singles record and a 12-7 mark in dual action. Platt followed on court three with a 6-2, 6-3 decision over Liza Tankimovich to put Bucknell in front 2-1 and secure a team-best 19-8 singles record for the regular season.

Loyola responded to the deficit with a win at second singles, but Allen got the lead back by defeating senior Anna Rico 6-3, 6-4 on court five. Allen ends her rookie regular season 14-7. They Greyhounds came right back with a 6-4, 7-6 (4) win on court four, setting up a clinching scenario on court six.

Manolov ceded the first set, 6-4, to Shivkumar, but the sophomore came back in set two to win 6-3. Manolov then held on late for a 6-4 win to secure her 10th victory of the season and a 2-0 week for the Bison.

The Bison now enter the Patriot League Tournament winners of two straight and await seeds to be announced by the league office. The bottom two seeds will begin the tournament in the first round on Thursday, April 18, and the top seven seeds begin the quarterfinals on Friday, April 19.
