Men’s Tennis Defeats St. Bonaventure 6-1 for Third Straight Win

LEWISBURG, Pa. – Dominant singles wins from the bottom half of the lineup carried the Bucknell men's tennis team to a 6-1 victory over St. Bonaventure on Sunday afternoon. Playing outdoors at home for the first time this season, the Bison won their third straight match to improve to 6-2.
Freshman Will Robinson, filling in for the injured Brendan McDonald, teamed with Amar Tahirovic for the deciding doubles win, and then Robinson blanked Arjun Piniprolu 6-0, 6-0 at No. 6 to lead the singles charge. Bucknell is now 8-0 in the No. 6 spot in its eight spring duals.
Fellow freshman Liam Kilmer won 6-0, 6-1 at No. 4, and Tim Zelikovsky clinched the verdict with a 6-3, 6-1 win at No. 5. Now 17-1 in singles this season, Zelikovsky earned career win No. 59 to move into the top-10 on Bucknell's all-time list. Daniel Bednarek also won 59 matches from 2005-09.
Tahirovic was a 6-4, 6-3 winner over Connor Turner at first singles to complete his two-win day. Adam Stavrakas came from a set down to beat Anargha Ganguly 1-6, 6-4, 10-7 at No. 2 singles. The Bonnies' lone point came on Court 3, where Hugo Cochlin won a three-setter from Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega.
In doubles, Kilmer and Zelikovsky were victorious at No. 3, but St. Bonaventure evened things up with a win from Cochlin and Archie Graham at No. 1. Tahirovic and Robinson secured the point with a 7-5 win over Ganguly and Jean Marrero, winning the final two games to break a 5-all deadlock.
Bucknell will next head to California for three matches during Spring Break. The Bison play Westmont on March 11, UC Riverside on March 13, and Loyola Marymount on March 14.
