
Men's Lacrosse Suffers PL Home Loss to Colgate

LEWISBURG. Pa. – Bucknell fell to 1-2 in Patriot League play with a 17-4 loss to Colgate at home on Saturday. The Raiders neutralized the Bison offense, holding them scoreless for nearly 30 minutes through the middle portion of the game, and scored eight unanswered between the second and third quarters. Colgate improved to 3-0 in league play with the win.
Bucknell was held off the scoreboard in both the second and fourth quarters. It scored three goals during the opening frame and trailed 6-3 after the first 15 minutes. Sean Berrigan led the team with two goals, while Ethan Gyllenhaal and Will Hopkins also found the back of the net. John Young finished with a team-high six ground balls, two caused turnovers and an assist. Luke Brunner added three caused turnovers and an assist.
Colgate outshot Bucknell 51-28 and posted a 51-24 advantage in ground balls. The Bison also struggled with clears, making good on 17 of 32 attempts. Its 32 turnovers were a season high. Bucknell did win the faceoff battle, collecting 13 of 25.
Gyllenhaal got the Bison on the board first by hurling a long shot from deep in Bucknell's own territory and scoring on an open net. Berrigan then scored two within a 45-second span at the end of the opening frame. The Raiders held the Bison off the board from the 1:04 mark in the first quarter until Hopkins' goal with 1:36 remaining in the third.
Colgate's Jack Turner scored four goals with one assist, and 11 Raiders in total found the back of the net.
Bucknell played three goalies throughout the game, and all three saw time in the first 80 seconds of play. George Herron saw the bulk of the minutes, registering 11 saves and 12 goals against.
Bucknell goes on the road next Saturday to face Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa. at 1 p.m.
