Men’s Tennis Edged 4-3 at UC Riverside

RIVERSIDE, Calif. – Host UC Riverside won three of the four three-set singles matches and held off Bucknell 4-3 in an evenly matched men's tennis clash on Wednesday afternoon at the SRC Tennis Courts. Oscar Bain Moreno de Vega was a two-time winner and Amar Tahirovic won at No. 1 singles, but the Bison came up one short and fell to 7-3 on the season.
Bucknell got out to a great start, breezing to a pair of 6-2 wins at No. 2 and 3 doubles and then winning the first set in four of the six singles matches.
Tahirovic defeated Joshua Roth 6-3, 6-3 at No. 1 before the Highlanders got on the board when Ryan Huynh ended Tim Zelikovsky's 10-match winning streak on court six. Bucknell went up 3-1 when Bain finished off Lucas Ibarrondo Suarez 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 at No. 3, but UC Riverside fought back.
Aarav Sane came from a set down to defeat Liam Kilmer 6-7, 6-1, 6-3 at fifth singles, and Hugo DeGrande drew UC Riverside even with a 6-2, 6-7, 6-3 win over Brendan McDonald at No. 4. Justin Lamy clinched it for the Highlanders with a 2-6, 7-5, 6-3 verdict over Adam Stavrakas at No. 2.
Bucknell finishes up its California trip on Thursday at Loyola Marymount at 4 p.m. Eastern.
